Aussies regain the control after Langer's early departure

Australia have the upper hand in this match as they have a 1st innings lead of 101 runs. Still 8 sessions remaining in this match Australia will be looking to get a good reasonable target on the board and then bowl England out on the 5th days play. The pitch has some rough areas developing near the full and good length areas and spinners will be very helpful for both teams and the pitch has uneven bounce as well so the batsman will have to be watchful all the time. The umpires are out on the field and Australia's 2nd innings will start in couple of minutes time. Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden are opening the batting for Australia. Both the batsmen gave a solid start for Australia in the 1st innings with a partnership of 74 runs for the 1st wicket. Langer scored 38 runs in the 1st innings while Hayden scored a magnificent century and ended up scoring 180 runs.

Hoggard was brilliant with the ball in the 1st innings picking up 4 wickets and continued this form by picking up J.Langer's wicket with his 1st ball of the 2nd innings. Hoggard is famous for his inswingers to the left handers but that ball held its line and Langer got a good outside edge and Collingwood never drops such easy catches. It was indeed the start which England were looking for in this innings now they have to look for more wickets with the new ball.Langer departs scoring just 1 run.

With the fall of Langer's wicket, Australian captain Ricky Ponting comes out to the middle to join M.Hayden. Ponting is in good form in test cricket his stats says it all. Nearly 9000 runs with an average of 59.19 and with 34 centuries Ponting will be looking to play a big knock.

This pitch was making the life miserable for the batsmen as the bounce was unpredictable. Sometimes the ball kept low and sometimes it bounced unexpectedly and usually caught the batsmen the awkward position. Harmison was bowling well with his short deliveries and was angling in to the batsmen around the ribcage area. Both Ponting and Hayden were living dangerously. Ponting however was lucky to survive he missed a good length ball from Harmison but the ball just went over the top of the offstump.

Just after playing 10-15 overs both Hayden and Ponting were looking comfortable with their batting. Runs were coming for Australia at a good rate and Ponting was smashing the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Hayden was brilliant with his timing and placement. Anything on the legs Hayden just used the pace to work on the legside for fours. Both the batsmen played the spin of Panesar nicely. If he bowled on the middle stump line then they used the sweep shot effectively. Ponting was not allowing Monty to settle and stick with a particular line and length.

Just as both the batsmen were nearing their half centuries, Monty Panesar did the trick just before the tea time. He flighted one to Hayden and invited him to go for the sweep shot as there was no fine leg in position but the ball held its line after pitching and Hayden was trapped in front and it was an easy decision for the umpire.Hayden scored 36 runs off 51 balls and Australia are 85/2 with a lead of 186 runs.

D.Martyn is the new batsman for Australia. Martyn was unlucky in the 1st innings as he was run out for 17. Now all he has to do is stay at the wicket and start building a partnership with Ponting.

Just before the tea break Ricky Ponting smashed one through the covers to reach his 35th half century in test cricket. Australia are in a strong position in this match as they have scored 96 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and now leading by 197 runs.

Australia in a strong position leading by nearly 200. Need a miracle from Panesar, Flintoff and co to bowl them out with them only leading by 350 odd...

Aussies in a very strong position despite those two wickets. Great knock from Punter so far, he'll get a hundred.

Brilliant presentation mate!

Good early wicket for the pommys but they didn't captilise on all the chances they had early when Hayden and Ponting were unsettled. They payed and good partnership from Ponting and Hayden but very good wicket for Monty. Although Aus are dominating considering they already have a lead.
