Third Man's Chat

davidgower4hm.jpg
David Gower : Hello again and Welcome to The Third Man's Chat . We all have witnessed a good start to the qualifying stages of the Champions Trophy 2006 . The conditions in India are very hot but SriLankans played well and had no problems to beat Bangladesh . SriLanka won by 167 runs with some beautiful batting display from K.Sangakkara and M.Atapattu and some stunning bowling from M.Muralitharan . Bangladesh had no answer to this SriLankan bowling and Srilanka were on top in both the innings. With me in the studio are Michael Holding, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton. Lets hear from this cricketing experts about their views and opinions about todays match.Well Naseer what do u think about this big win first up for the SriLankans .

hussain6nb.jpg
N. Hussain : Well that was just terrific win for Srilanka and a convincing one as well. They will have their confidence and morale high after this win. SriLanka were surely the favourites to win this match as Bangladesh were not a strong side today and were without Mortaza and Rafique .SriLankan openers failed to score a big one as they played poor shots to some good bowling by S.Rasel . K.Sangakkara and M.Atapattu were batting beautifully .Lets take a look at the Partnership stats for the 3rd wicket . Both the batsmen played well and kept on rorating the strike . Sangakkara was brilliant got uns on both sides of the wicket and was strong on the leg side . Atapattu played brilliantly as well coming from an injury . This partnership gave complete control to SriLanka.

M. Atherton: I totally agree with Naseer that both K.Sangakkara and M.Atapattu were absolutely briliant but it was Sangakkara who stayed till the end of the innings andmade a brilliant century 121 not out off just 126 balls with 11 fours and 1 huge six. That was a marvelous innings in this heat and everyone know the conditions in India ......batsmen have the problems of dehydration and are constantly sweating but Sangakkara had no suck problems perhaps knows the conditions of India very well as SriLanka is neighbouring country of India and subcontinent conditions are almost similar.
Lets take a look at the wagon wheel of K.Sangakkara .........
Runs scored on both sides of the wicket ..particularly strong on the legside . he played the sweep shot effectively and got him lots of runs in that area. Truely magnificant batting throughtout the innings .

M. Holding :I totally agree with both of you that Srilanka's batting was up to the standard and it gave the opening bowlers to keep the pressure on Bangladesh. C. Vaas bowled beautifully and got 2 quick wickets early in the innings . Then the Spin King M.Muralitharan was most dangerous in the SriLankan bowling attack . He completed his spell with some brilliant figures of 10overs 2maidens 22runs 5wickets. This 5 wicket haul has proved that he is going to be dangerous on Indian wickets . Lets take a look at the pitchmap og Murali we can see that he was consistent with his line and length . He bowled outside the off stump mostly and got the ball to turn a lot . He was smashed for 6 when he bowled short but it also produced a wicket for him . Overall he was superb with the ball and is a strong contender for the Man Of The Match.

David Gower :Thank You gentlemen . Well we have two strong contenders for the Man Of The Match award .....we will take a short break here on the Third Man's Chat when we come back we will take u directly to the presentation ceremony with Ian Botham......Stay Tuned.

Nice work gamer.... Its better if Sangkra gets MOTM becos taking four wickets for the champ bowler that too against Bangla is easy for him but to bat 121 through out the 50 overs is tough!!! Good win for SL!!! :)

I really love that partnership screen, and the others are nice also...

Well done!

Presentation Ceremony

Ian Botham :Good Evening ladies and gentlemen .......we are here for the presentation ceremony of the first match of the qualifying round of the Champions Trophy 2006 between Srilanka and Bangladesh . This was a preety one-sided match whith SriLanka dominating till the very end . 1st of all i will like to call Bangladeshi captain H.Bashar .

Well H.Bashar your team was not in good touch today seemed like it was a tough match for your team.

H.Bashar : Well SriLanka are certainly a good side indeed and Sangkkara and Atapattu made a good solid partnership in the middle order and they got to a huge score and also the pitch was on a slower side in the 2nd innings and Murali bowled brilliantly .

Ian Botham : Also the plus point for your team in both bowling and batting was the bowling of S.Rasel and batting was J.Omar. But you were missing Mortaza and Rafique in the whole match then the bowling would have been much stronger .

H.Bashar : Yes they are good bowlers but Mortaza was out due to ankle injury and Rafique was down with fever .....both are expected to return in the next match .

Ian Botham : Good luck for the next match.

H.Bashar :Thanks Ian.

Ian Botham : Now i will like to call the winning captain M.Jayawardena on stage................Well Mahela congrajulations on the big win first up in the Champions Trophy opener.

M.Jaya'dena :Thanks Ian ....We were totally determined to win this one as this has also increased the confidence of the players ...thats why we were out in the middle with full strength.

Ian Botham :Also the batsmen played well took over the bowling and posted a huge score .It was nice to watch both Sangakkara and Atapattu getting that huge partnership .And also not to forget about Murali.

M.Jaya'dena :Yes Sangakkara and Atapattu steadied the ship for us as we lost couple of wickets in the start but that 3rd wicket partnership of 196 runs was brilliant . Sangakkara was brilliant with his century and Atapattu played well after coming back from injury and also deserved the century .Murali bowled superbly ....he has five wickets under his name and how he will be raring to go in the next matches . He was spinning the bowl well and Indian pitches are helpful for the spinners .

Ian Botham :Well Mahela Good Luck for the next match .
M.Jaya'dena :Thank You very much Ian .

Ian Botham :Now the Man Of The Match award is choosen by the commentry team and the match refree and believe me that it was a really tough decision to make . Muralitharan bowled well picking up 5 wickets but todays Man Of The Match is none other than K.Sangakkara for his excellent innings of 121 not out off 126 balls.

Congrajulation Kumar Sangakkara for and excellent innings under difficult conditions . How did you managed to beat the heat and scoring freely?

K.Sangakkara:It was hot down there and really batting was difficult under these conditions but i got good support from M.Atapattu and then we started to get used to the conditions by picking up singles and the went for the shots in the end.

Ian Botham :Well this is a real confident boost for you for the Champions Trophy ...what are your plans for the whole tournament?

K.Sangakkara: Iwill have to work hard on my fitness as the conditions here are extremely hot and its difficult to bat and keep wickets .

Ian Botham :Thanks Sangakkara for having a word with a us.

K.Sangakkara:Thank You

Ian Botham :That concluds the Presentation Ceremony .....Some EXCITING NEWS coming up shortly .......Stay Tuned

HAPPY DIWALI to all.:happy:happy
