FOOTBALL Football Manager Discussion

Just been drawn into a pretty tough UEFA Cup group after beating Aberdeen 9-1 on aggregate. I've got Steaua Bucharest, Marseille, Galatasaray and Malmo FF. One of us big clubs is going to have to be knocked out, and I just hope it's not us. I think we have the class to beat them all, although I expect Marseille will be the hardest match.

Anyone think 4-2-4 is a winning formula? Played Stoke with it, won 1-0, they had 3 sent off.

I'm going up to Blackburn now, so I'll update once i've got my arse handed me!

Not 4-2-4 unless 2 of the strikers are more of attacking midfielders. Against the top class teams you'll be ripped to shreds.

Pretty average start to the season, having to play Mikel at left back, and starting the likes of Sahar, Murphy, Camacho etc. This is all because of the damn Olympics (said world cup eariler oops). Beat Liverpool 1-0, scraped a win with Toni scoring at the end. Drew 1-1 with City. Toni scored again. Beat Wigan 4-1 and despite the scoreline, we played really badly. Toni scored again :) and Mikel, Cole and Alcides got the other three. Two goals came in the last 10 mins.

Out of the Carling Cup after a last minute winner from Blackburn, not too bothered, UEFA is where it's at.

Signed Iaqinta :D. He's a great back up for me. Now my strikers are Toni, Pato, Aguero, Iaquinta, Murphy, Sahar, Salas, Doudin :D. Everyone is back from the Olympics. Now to kick into 5th gear :D.

I play a 4-1-0-3-2 and I'm 4th with Man City. It must work pretty well!

4-4-2.

Have the fullbacks (if they're pacy and have stamina) to run right down to the end of the pitch. Get the wingers to do the same. This is if you have good wingers and fullbacks.

3-1-3-3 for me with Aston Villa. Depends on your quality and in which positions. I have quality in Melberg and Laursen, but not a lot else of that quality at the back. Barry plays just infront of the back three, with van der Vaart, Nigel Reo-Coker and Ashley Young in the midfield. My strikers are Harewood, Carew, Agbonlahor, Doyle, Vieri and Delfouneso (Absoulte quality player at only 17 who started off in the U18's team and he's already worth over a mil.), and because I have so much quality up front I decided to use as much of them as possible. It works great, but every so often you do get a few thrashings.

I've gone with a 4-1-3-2 :)

Should work, I've also signed Thomas Graveson on a free to toughen up the midfield in the second half.

4-2-3-1

I've used it as City and Real Madrid now, and it's been working brilliantly. Won the league with City, just beat Milan 4-0 as City as well. It's been pretty flawless tbh. I've got a decent defence, with 2 fairly attacking wide defenders in Richards and Marcelo. Then 2 centre midfielders in Iniesta/Johnson and Gerrard/Camacho/Fernandes. Then I've got Robinho Attacking-mid left, Aguero attacking-mid-centre and Messi attacking-mid-right, with Guilherme up top. Works a treat.

Talking of Guilherme. He's seriously paying back his transfer fee. In the league he's played 4, scored 7, 3 MOTM awards and 2 assists. Then he also added a hat-trick against Milan as well. He's top top class.

Dan or Mani do you have any decent defenders i only have atm Kompany, Gonzalos, Dunne and Onaoh i've sold Richards of 13m and Rafinha, Marcelo and Garay won't sign.

Dear oh dear. You got ripped off Richards. That's a shockingly low amount of money. What do you want, a solid centre back, an attacking fullback etc?
