What's the obsession with today? Since when did stats mean everything? I think some of you will find there were some mighty fine players pre 1990...

Shame really.. looked like it might be an interesting topic with some healthy debate and input as to who people, who had seen more than 10 years worth of cricket, might have to add to the argument..... I'll get my coat.

Funny, I have never heard a single ex-player, or read any article, or heard any commentator say that Gilchrist is the greatest opening batsman of all time...So how about you find 1, and im only asking for 1 quote, or an article...thats all I want. God you are pathetic...

For starters, your an idiot, can you please tone down the moronic bias and read what rox has said, coz hes whiping the floors with your argument, it doesnt take an idiot to see that hes beaten everything youve said.

If you want to see how many players think Gilchrist is the best ever ODI opener just read a newspaper for godsake, EVERYONE THINKS HE IS BETTER

Tendulkar is great, Gilchrist is greater. any team would have him in their ODI team over tendulkar - awaiting some kind of demeaning post that doesnt make sense, entertain me

Id agree id have Gilchrist in my squad, but over Tendulka, i dunno if i could, maybe id have both :p but then were would i put Sangakkara, hmmmm....ill ramble a bit later when i have decided :p

Greatest ever? I couldn't say, I haven't been following Cricket long enough. Gilchrist verus Tendulkar? I'd personaly go for Gilchrist, not only for his extremely aggresive batting but also because he's a keeper. Means the batting line up/bowling line up can be bolstered by one more as you don't need to have 2 openers and a wickie.

But Tendulkar is a Batsmen come part time spinner, and in a ODI game you need some like Sachin just to stop the scoreboard ticking over;)

Kumar Sangakkara not seen much of him but he can hit a ball and he looks a very good opening batsman

Um...what about Chris Gayle! He is an amazing batsman who can (and has) hit several one handed sixes. He's just plain class

LOL, "go read the newspapers" WOW, brilliant argument! You obviously have not read my previous post where i compare gilchrists and sachins stats, go read that and then come back and tell me he's better.

You have been warned twice now to calm down. However, you and others in this thread have shown that you are incapable of discussing this issue in a mature and responsible manner. Therefore, I have no option but to close this thread.
