BJ Hodge: 2 innings, 152 runs @ 76, HS: 123 SR 129
ML Hayden: 2 innings, 89 @ 44, HS: 60, SR 83

Lets not let facts get in the way or anything.
What a stupid and poor assessment. You can't base a selection on 2 games against 2 non Test playing nations. It amuses me how you left Hayden's 181 out which was only THREE games ago. How you can drop someone based on the logic that they aren't making runs after their last few innings have been 181*, 60 & 29 is beyhond me. Especially when they've been averaging 53 throughout their last 15 innings. When you've got the likes of Clarke who averages a mere 40 after cashing in against a minnow who apparently can't bowl that much due to a back injury still in the starting XI.

Hayden has made 2 good scores this summer. One in the 4th Ashes test, one in the 3rd NZ ODI. Both dead rubbers. Coincedence?

Oh, and for the CB Series, NZ Series and the WC so far Hayden and Hodge have basically the same average. Only Hodges SR is about 105 compared to Haydens of 70.

I always judge a good score by who it's made against. So if Hayden made a century tonight, against SA, then he'd gain alot more one day respect from me! :p But I don't want him to go out for a duck in his next innings as well lol

I can't see him making a century against SA tonight IMO.

His made 2 ODI centuries this year. Wheres all Gilchrist's runs? Or Clarkes? Sheesh, haven't seen them get a century lately.

Nope.

Talk about an ungrateful lot. One of the most successful batsman we've produced and you just want to throw him out the window. It's not like his been struggling or anything. Way to go guys. :clap

That was the CB series game, if Vettori could catch we wouldn't be having this discussion at all

We shouldn't be picking our team on sentiment- and he has been struggling, the only way he scores at a reasonable rate is by slogging. It's no coincidence that his two decent scores have been when he was dropped 3 times and on a ground the size of my backyard.

He has been struggling. You only need to watch him to see.

Well Gilchrist is the wicketkeeper and the best one we have (and his looked better then Hayden has so far) , and well I'm one of the only people who does not back up Clarke all the time, so whatever.

I'm not sure about an all nighter. I'll probably watch the 1st 20-30 overs if Australia bat first.

I can see this being a low-scoring affair.

And Symonds is in for Hodge. All those fears about our defending will either be sorted or continue on.
