Group A - Australia, Netherlands, Scotland, South Africa

Yeah because he got 90 odd not out against the Netherlands. That'll win you cricketer of the century won't it?
I don't really see the reason to drop Hodge or Watson now.

He was batting at 4 was he not? It's in his stats just like Hayden failure to make a 50 against the Netherlands.

There is no reason, one of them will be the unlucky one missing out because Symonds has to come back in.

Still doesn't change the fact Hayden didn't make a 50 against the Netherlands. I thought it was easy to score runs against them so where was his 183 against the Netherlands?

You think scoring runs against Netherlands is easy, so Mr Hayden averaging 50 this year should have no problem posting at least a 50 against them. Fact is you still got to score the run no matter who the opposition. Clarke could have got a duck but he didn't he got a 90 not out.

But I thought the Netherlands were easy to score runs against? A guy averaging 50 this year should have no problems against them should he not?

Why hog all of the runs? It's not as if the average dropped below 50 was it? Hayden will probably get the runs when it counts but I'm sure the guy averaging 11 in his last several matches should be very gracious that his opening counterpart through his wicket away and enabled him to get as many runs as he did.

A guy with that attitude should be dropped right away. He's there to score runs not to get out so that someone else can score runs.

SA flog another teams attack. Good for them, but when it comes to facing Australia things won't be that easy for them.

Hayden failed. Yeah yeah, he went out going for a big shot, not because the bowler totally did him. Upping the run rate. Totally understandable. Ponting did it as well. Infact 2 balls in a row, 1 he got dropped the very next one from that bowler he was gone!

I was being sarcastic.

But unlike you, I doubt he dwells on minor mistakes. He got a start, he saw off the new ball and was looking to push the issue. What more would you want from an opening batsman? He had a changeroom of talented players behind him and they were playing the Netherlands, he could afford to bat with no consequence.

Well a duh.
But that's the excuse you came up with so I responded.
I don't give a stuff about Hayden not scoring against them, just proving my point that you still have to score the runs so rubbish Clarke's 90 is rubbish. He can only score against the opposition that he has been given.

Hayden getting out going for a big shot is nothing new, his entire gameplan in ODIs is to block 5 balls and having a slog at the last one. Then he gets out for 30 off 650 and everybody pats him on the back for doing the team thing and trying to lift the run rate- the exception of course being against a weak team/on a small ground when the mishit is still safe and he can get himself an inconsequential ton.
