Warm-up matches

All good saying it's just a warm up but we did it over in England and look where the Ashes went, Pakistan and England did it over here in Aus and look who won those series. No use using excuses you should be finding out where you went wrong and fixing it or else it will be exposed again.

Encouraging signs for Tait, Clark and Hogg. All looked to take the opportunity to hand again. Also good to see some fire in the openers again.

Something nice for the Australians to bounce off.

Can't afford to have Watson, Johnson & Clark in the same bowling lineup in an ODI. There all as good as eachother but if played up the order, Watson is probably one of the best batsman in the team.

Probably won't need the latter two unless we are going 4 pacemen + Watson or injury strikes. So hopefully McGrath can find his usual form.

Good performance by us. I knew picking SL to win would make us win. 3 run outs is impressive.

Fulton broke a small finger though. Now we have a big injury list too, sigh. If Bond was to get injured now we'd be skrewed.

Bond's figures are pretty averaqge for him, though 2 wickets were important. Was probably still holding back a lot because he really doesn't want to miss this.

but this is the world cup it's completely different to a tour, these 2 teams might only play each other once more and you play so many matches in a short space of time that the warm up games have no real effect. Winning is bette than losing but it's not important in the long run of the world cup.

We've got a much more up to date scorecard on CricketEurope.
Understatement IMO. I was trying to get the scorecard for Pak vs RSA from Cricinfo but all they had were starting line-ups of the teams, whereas you guys were already in the 43rd over!

Not really. England always lose warm-up matches. It's sort of a tradition.

I remember we got hammered in South Africa in 2004 by their A team but we won the series. Warm up matches have no ulterior motive or no sidequests, they are purely for 'warming up' as the name suggests...

English fans keep bringing that up. When was the last time they lost the warm-up matches since then and didn't lose the series/tournament?

India last May.

We lose series' because we play bad cricket, not because the Prime Ministers XI - or whoever - beat us.

Okay they drew the series

But the warm-up matches are more often than not a reflection of things to come.

There's no point arguing. England play warm up matches to test players. You'll rarely see an England team playing a warm-up game with the sole purpose being to win it.
