GTA IV on PC

If it was anything apart from just "fist fighting" it wouldn't really match the style of the game, you wouldn't expect someone like Niko to be doing all sorts of martial arts or be good at boxing...

That's because it matches the style of that game, I havn't heard much about it but it seems like a cheap GTA rip-off (in the game mechanics/physics etc.) with the stuff that was in SA (and a bit more) thrown into it.

You are only forced to shoot on missions, but you can shoot people whenever you like. Starting shootouts, getting 4 or 5* (or 6 if you can :p) and then getting away from the police is quite fun.

That never really gets old in GTA games, does it? Especially if you can grab a tank along the way...

Ok Madman once you complete GTA 4 tell me what you can do with the money you get from missons?
Saints row 2 might be a rip off of GTA but they done a good job of it

So, is Saints Row 2 a much longer game than GTA IV (whether that's by way of the story, or the amount of things you can do outside the missions)?

Guys just installed GTA IV and it looked pretty impressive. No performance issues till now, will report if i get any

PC Configs

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53Ghz E7200
Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 512mb
2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
Windows XP SP3

MasterBlaster. If you want a game which lasts a long time and gives you freedom to wonder around, you should get S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I got it a month and a half ago, and I only have managed to get one minor ending (about 6 other minor endings) plus 2 major endings.

It has amazing graphics, very realistic and a story line which does make sense. This is Shadow of Chenobyl I am talking about, btw not the next one in the series

I've just got the GTA IV from ebay.
The performance have'nt been great, I get anything between 22-31 FPS in various locations. But it's pretty modest system [MSI 8800GTS 512Mb OC, E6550, P5N-E SLI, 2GB RAM]. But considering the fact that I am overriding the graphics options and have set the view distance, texture quality to max, I guess it's a good FPS.

@Masterblaster, you wanna play a long game? Play Fallout 3. It's Awesome.:onpc

Already got that, I might try and get back into it, I didn't know it had that many endings!!

Thanks, already on my list!! Btw, how do you think GTA IV will run on my PC?

I guess it'll run (Playable FPS) on settings between low to mid. The most problem you'll be getting is from your GPU's VRAM as folks at Rockstar has decided to limit the graphics option depending upon the size of the VRAM. That's not on, IMO. I mean people having DDR3 RAMS or SLI certified RAM could somewhat bridge the the speed gap between the VRAM and RAM.

Steve, your PC's only problem is the lack of framebuffer in the card. I seriously suggest pick up a cheap 9600GT or 8800GT from the greens or the 4670 or 4850 from the reds, the 4850 being the better choice. You can have huge gaming possibilities, mostly because these cards have 512mb Framebuffers and they seriously help, especially in games like GTA IV. Even though the x1950XT is good you'll be bottlenecking it with the low framebuffer. :)

I saw this in PC Gamer, they listed it as a must-buy:

Radeon HD4830, £102 They said it is almost the same GPU as the 4850.

That'll sit well with the rest of my PC setup, won't it? Won't be getting it yet though, after dropping £230 on my new snooker table (which is coming Monday!!!!) :happy

Yeah agreed, however i would really advise on getting a card with 1 gig of onboard memory, cos that's what you will need to see GTA4 at its highest settings.

I wish i had 1 gig.

That's true. I would say that a GPU with less than 1GB of VRAM is'nt going to let you 'normally' attain a the highest settings. For that, one needs to override the graphics settings. But then, it'll also be required that the GPU is powerful enough to handle the extra load in terms of shader clock etc.
I'll be buying and XFX GTX260 Black Edition (896MB, Core 216) in coming weeks and hope it can handle the override settings.
