ICCCT2006: Qualifying Round

Are you nuts? I disagree there. Bashar is by and far one of Bangladesh's best batsmen. His average and strike rate is so low because most of the time he has to bog himself down and score a 20 off 40 balls to dig the team out. When he has a base, he is a terrific batsman. See what he did to Australia in the match they won. But he is in bad form now.

Ferhad Reza isn't a good enough bowler to lead the seam attack. They could drop him
Nah, that's crazy. He's been batting well enough to hold his spot.

I agree on Habibul Bashar. I rate his batting skill close to the equivalent of Flintoff. Both very good batsmen with a couple of rough areas. One dayers have treated them differently though, Bashar has to play collapse halting captain's knocks all the time, while Freddie is afforded more free spirit by his team.

And Bangla and creaming Zimbabwe...
Hasan with 10-1-18-3. I told you he was a good enough spinner. Aftab and Strydom both didn't bowl, quite interesting. Aftab only bowled one over this entire tournament. And Mehrab Hossain didn't bat. Something tells me the Bangladeshis are taking this as an experiment.
They need more International matches. Like atleast 3 full tours a season. New Zealand, West Indies, Pakistan, etc. After a while, England, India and Australia.

No surprises to me, Bangladesh were always favourites to take this out. Nafees is another great talent for Bangladesh, geez they keep producing these great youngsters into the team.

Surprisingly, the crowd for this match is the biggest by far. Perhaps the Indian fans are finally warming up to Champion's trophy fever.

I read somewhere that tickets were being sold in packages of 3 (2 Qualifiers and the India-England match) .
That could be one of the reasons for the good turnout y`day as well as the fact that the Diwali holiday sason if aproaching and you`ll see bigger crowds in the big gams to come.

I wouldn't get too keen on Saqibul Hasan, Zimbabwe are baffled by any left arm bowler and you could easily see that they weren't playing to score runs.

If I were in Aftab's position, I'd be dropping the bowling altogether. He's already a certain top order player. He doesn't need to have that additional quality to hold his spot, so he should focus his efforts on improving as a batsman.

Their fixtures are improving. 07/08 will mean a lot of cricket for them, like what you are asking for. They'll have a home tri-series in 2008 and of course, we're in a period of a great many major events:

Oct 2006 Champions Trophy
Mar 2007 World Cup
Jun 2007 Afro-Asia Cup
Sep 2007 T20 Championship

Well they never really collapsed because they really got a start at all. lol

Can someone watching tell me whether it is the pitch/conditons, great bowling or the West Indies are just playing terrible?

Mixture of all three, the pitch is on the slow and sluggish side which certainly does not assist West Indies as they are more comfortable with faster pitches, the Sri Lankans are bowling a perfect line and length and a few of the wickets were due to bad shots such as lack of footwork.

Maharoof, Maharoof, Maharoof is on fire!

Funny. Windies 2nd biggest partnership was between Collymore and Edwards, some of the worst tailenders in ODI cricket.

Wow, Edwards has bowled Tharanga first ball! Is a shock on the cards here?

Just as I thought that the Windies were completley down and out, Edwards strikes with his very first ball. I do not really think that the Windies have any real chance of winning this, barring any sort of miracle.

wow well this definately puts sri lanka as my top team in this tournament. i bet with my friend that there gona win it but wasnt sure if that was the correct choice but i gues i have a good shot at it. Vaas and Maharoof bowled great.
