It's not about Virat fans or Rohit fans. It's plain and simple. Rohit Sharma doesn't belong to the test arena. Guys like Vihari, Nair do and should be given chance before him.

Coming onto the match Rahane's counter attacking game did help us to build a strong partnership .... the Aussies were all over us before Rahane went maniac in the initial 10 balls he faced but once he got settled runs came at a brisk rate from both ends.Tomorrow's morning session is crucial if Kohli and Rahane can survive and bat long its advantage India ... couple of early wickets for Aussie tommorow the long tail is exposed and the balance will tilt more towards Australia's way.

No doubt a great day for India today. Australia went from 251/6 to 326/10, a total of 75 runs for the last 4 wickets. Though it doesn't seem like much, the fact that there is bound to be difference between Australia and India's lower order, I feel it's 30-35 runs more than what we would have liked.

The Kohli-Rahane partnership is the one that may very well decide India's fate in this match. If they can bring the deficit down to 50 before this partnership gets broken, I think that would be satisfactory result. I don't think that we may need a lead of 100 here. If we can manage to break even, we will still stand a chance.

I expected the same from him. The way he played at Adelaide was sheer class and he seemed to take the same momentum forward. Today's innings talked more about his courage and his discipline to play in foreign conditions. Disappointed to see him get dropped in South Africa, if he was there the series was for our taking. Anyways, good to see him cement his place back in the XI with some timely crucial knocks[DOUBLEPOST=1544887900][/DOUBLEPOST]

With the tail we have, you really wanna have someone batting at #6 who averages 25 ? He can't score when the pitch is even little bit favouring bowlers, that is in England, SA, NZ. We need someone who can hang in there and look to build partnership, who can support batsmen in other end. Rohit can't do that.

To tell you in one sentence why I don't wanna see Rohit in tests, here it is. In the first innings of first match, Rohit slogged Lyon and it just went past the fielder for six, when he could have got out. Right next ball, he slogs again and gets out. Seriously ? And in that context in game ? Hell, Ashwin hung in there which allowed Pujara to score which helped us win.

We have someone in domestic who can do that and I feel we should give them chance instead of going for Rohit.

Ross Taylor average 25 in India
Kane Williamson averages 21 in South Africa
Brendon McCullum averaged 24 in Australia, 29 in England, 17 in South Africa, 22 in Sri Lanka & 21 in West Indies (pathetic !!!!)
Ricky Ponting averaged 26 in India
Virat Kohli averaged 13.90 in England back in 2014

Rohit have achieved more than what Karun Nair have atleast in First class Cricket. Vihari is young and he can get better if he plays more "A" games. A stabilised player is better than young and inexperienced player. Vihari should and will get his chances but doesn't mean Rohit doesn't deserve

I am talking about all away matches, you are pointing to one country and indicating their failures. And you can't compare the likes of Ponting and Kane with Sharma. They are a different class. Even Kohli for that matter.
Do you know any good domestic NZ batsmen who could have replaced Baz and his captaincy skills ?
Do you know any good NZ batsmen who can replace the great Kane and Taylor ?
Do you know any good Aussies domestic batsmen who could have replaced Ponting ?
Do you know any Indian domestic batsmen who can replace Kohli ?

Again, I am talking away games as a whole. I didn't point out and say his failure in 1 test in England. Why are you assuming that ? Can you please point out where I have done that ? I am considering all away matches. And I didn't tell Rahul or Vijay should play ahead of Sharma.

Just because nobody got runs, doesn't mean Rohit's bad performance is justified. The reason few people including me were backing Vijay in SA despite his failures is because, he had performed well in similar conditions.

I don't remember ABD or others getting out in those manners, so not gonna jump on that argument. But what Rohit did on that pitch, in that context, in TWO CONSECUTIVE balls when he was almost out in first ball is very, very dumb, to say in simple words !

I have seen and followed matches when Nair dug his team out of the hole and won matches. Can't say the same about Rohit.

Let me say that I am no hater of Rohit. He has won so many games in LO. But there are few players who should stick to few formats.

Rohit may be talented, sure, if it's his day he will run through the opposition. But his day is in tests is very less, under these conditions against quality pace attack. If he gets his chance and does score, that's good and I am happy to eat my words. But, I prefer we give chance to youngsters like Vihari and Nair.

Bumrah proved me wrong in this point, so I will be happy if Sharma does too. But what Bumrah did is grab his opportunity very well.

Great batting from Kohli and Rahane till now, but we are still not out of the woods yet. Any lead for Australia will be advantageous for them as India has to bat last on this pitch. 154 runs is the deficit and a quick wicket tomorrow morning and you could be looking at almost a 100 run lead for Australia, considering how brittle the rest of our batting lineup looks. Yes we have Vihari but this is his first game of this series and Pant we all know is Pant.

Rahane - top notch stuff. I kept repeatedly saying during this series that Rahane is just too good a guy to be dropped even if he is going through a mini slump in his form. And Rahane has proved me right. That innings in Adelaide has lifted him considerably and he is teeing off from there. Pujara and Rahane are of the similar mould that made players like Dravid and Laxman 'legends'. You persist with them even if they go through some frustratingly consistent downs.

Utterly disappointed with the way Vijay has fallen away! My support for him ends there. It's a total waste of how Vijay has handled his game in the past few years, after the high that he displayed in 2014-15 when he was the No. 1 batsman for India in overseas tests even ahead of Rahane and Kohli. I guess its also a personality thing that influences how you would handle your career.
