If Pant and Vihari win this match their careers are made.
Frankly speaking I was always a fan of Kohl's Captaincy in the past. He always did well as a Captain for India at the start of his Captaincy career (infact better than Dhoni in Tests specially). But don't know somewhere he lost his charm and suddenly his strategies became mediocre at times. He started committing blunders. Coming to the Test Series in South Africa, his Captaincy and bowling changes in Cape Town
were absolutely spot on (until Keshav Maharaj hit a 50 in the first innings) and the batting started poorly for India (including Kohli) but thanks to Pandya we were still in the game and once again Kohli as Captain was on the charge. We were all over South Africa bowling them out on 127. The only thing that went wrong was team selection (Kohli alone isn't responsible for that for sure). In Centurion we were outplayed by a not-so in-form AB de Villiers (who was allowed to get settle) or else the Proteas didn't came close to us. Kohli as Captain is at times one of the best in the world but the blunders he commit are the worst. His Captaincy is spot on in bits and parts. And his blunders if corrected on time can make India world beaters. If Kohli becomes a bit calmer and takes responsibility for the blunders he commit he would become a very good Captain. He definitely needs someone to step-in and handle his blunders (the team management can do that but they never did). I see a problem in the management and not in Kohli's Captaincy skills
Don't entirely agree with it. I read a lot of "near misses" and "beats the bat" in the commentary (espncricinfo), so I guess luck favored Australia more.To be honest we didn't bowl well in this Test either.
Can't disagree on that. The main issue is choosing a team to take the field
But it definitely has been the case on the last 3 away tours. It's the batsmen who have been letting us down. Yes, the tail has been a problem but it's wonderful to see we have been able to get the top-middle order for not much on the board. It's not all down to the batsmen
So official news
Prithvi Shaw is ruled out of the series and replaced by Mayank Agarwal (niceeee)
And Hardik Pandya is back in the squad for 3rd and 4th tests
https://www.timesnownews.com/sports...-for-3rd-4th-test-against-tim-paine-co/332507
India’s squad for the 3rd and 4th Test against Australia:
Virat Kohli (captain), M Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Parthiv Patel (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Mayank Agarwal
So, everyone ... Pandya to come in for the Thrid Test?
I read he is fit and took a fifer and scored 73 off 137 in the Ranji game (plus 2 wickets in the ongoing second innings) that he played to prove fitness and form
A big NO. Vihari is doing alright and Rahane/Pujara have looked good as well. The only change will be a spinner back in and a change in one/both the openers.
It's the batsmen who have been letting us down.
