India tour of Australia - 2018/19

It's pretty pathetic that the captain who came out and said Rahul's 2nd innings was crucial and then one bad test and he's dropped.
One bad test? He has failed in most if not all and has got more chances than anyone in the team even more than what Pujara/Rahane got. He's skilled and has great potential, there's no doubt in that but he is unable to score runs which is what counts. He will bounce back.

We are known for producing quality batsmen, we've tons and tons waiting in line to get an opportunity. Mayank Agarwal deserves it.

Rahul hasn't had just ONE bad test he's had several. But he should've been given another chance instead of Vihari opening. Vihari is a middle order batsman. Vijay looked out of touch and got out playing poor shots, now he's dropped.

Promoting Vihari up the order shows how desperate Kohli is for a series win in Australia. This bizarre selection is so unprecedented and doesn't make sense, and is representative of the state of Indian cricket regarding selections.

Rahul's scores in the previous 5 tests are as follows

37, 149, 0, DNB, 4, 33*, 2, 44, 2, 0.

271 runs in 9 innings @ 30 off which a century came in England and he has a century in Australia before. If this is a failure then Kohli should never have played another test after his England series. The main reason for consistent failure abroad is the CONSTANT chopping and changing. Only one bloke is secure off his place and everyone lusts over his numbers. It's one thing to hate and quite another to be practical. Vijay is a proven success in these conditions and was looking really good last game. That also is a stupid change.

Rahane doesn't have a test hundred in almost 2 years. Agarwal deserved it before Shaw actually.. but, but..

Seriously who is this MSK Prasad? - The more I see of him , read of him or hear him the more it irks me.

Meanwhile Shubhman Gill is having a terrific Ranjii Season a brilliant double ton in the last game and today 148 in the 4th innings. If Shaw can be selected on strong domestic outings then why not Gill ? Should be a given chance now in the home series to come maybe as an opener.

Test teams, rather great test teams are made out of continuity and persistence. Actually, you can apply that to limited overs as well.

I still remember so clearly the way the Aussies backed the likes of Hayden, Langer, Martyn and Ponting every time they hit a rut. The Waugh's became undroppable like Kohli. Each time their management got ahead of themselves and asked people to retire i.e Steve Waugh and Gilchrist it bit them in the back. You have to back talent. I'm all for Rahul and Vijay being dropped after Oz if they had failed in the remaining two tests, specially Vijay since he was poor in England as well. But, when a bloke goes out to bat knowing that if he fails the sword will drop, you hesitate to play even your strengths. Hell, I have faced it in league cricket as a player and now as a captain when young guys come and talk to me. This is bloody international cricket.

Just look at how Nair has been treated. What has Sharma done to be an automated selection? Jadeja was fit, then unfit but yet fit enough to field on the boundary and now fit again. It's just a big joke!!

I have one more question- Was Dhoni dropped for the T20's or rested? Rested because of work load in tests? If he was dropped does that mean that the management admits Pant needs more time? But then, he's our test first option? :lol

Make no mistake, this is a Dr. Frankenstein management. Anything can happen in his laboratory.

One thing that annoys me the most is on what basis selection for test matches are done - ODIs or first class ? Rahane and Vijay were playing A tour of New Zealand , Same was for Pant ,Shaw Nair and Vihari before their selection in the England tour but what first class game did Rohit Sharma play to deserve a selection in test matches ahead of these guys. Sure he is one of the best LOIs at moment but does that warrant him a place in the test squads? I hope for the betterment of Indian cricket we not only loose the remaining 2 tests and also perform pretty badly in the world cup so that Dravid and some sane captain take over from the maniacs of Kohli - Shastri duo. Imagine what statements will shastri will do if we somehow manage to win a series against a Australian side with two of their mainstream players missing.

It looks like they don't give a hoot about T20 format in international cricket. Dhoni is drafted into the T20 squad so that he can get much needed international game time before the ODI World Cup. Quite some experts have also been talking about "Dhoni needing game time before the ODI World Cup".

I have been harping on this for a very long time here. Kohli has in a way, made it so that only his place in the squad is strong enough. He is a freakish talent for whom "nerves, uncertainty on future, etc" dont bog down and only actually make him do better. And he thinks the other 14-15 guys in the squad must be made up like that and so he wields the axe mercilessly and has got a coach who can nod his head. But talents like Kohli are few and rare in India. And also if Kohli got the same treatment that he is handing to the other players, Kohli would not have been the great batsman that he is today. After that disastrous England tour of 2014, Kohli's career could have been packed and parceled for the cricket mortuary.

That's why I keep repeatedly praying that Kohli should be demoted down from captaincy and let to flourish as a player (he will; for his talent, he will) and let someone else lead the team. Comparisons to Ganguly is unwarranted because Ganguly was not as great a batsman as Kohli but Ganguly had a lovely eye for talent and also had much better tolerance/patience towards a player who needs to be given the time and space to flourish.

Looking at the current team XI. Wouldn't it make more sense to include Pandya in place of Rohit. Because Rohit isn't opening anyway. Pandya could bowl 10-15 overs in a day and he's attaking player just like Rohit.

Looks like Shastri and Twitter are made for each other. MSK Prasad has categorically said that Jadeja was fit while Shastri is probably still on that coke he snorted. Would love to be a journalist and ask him that if Ashwin & Jadeja were unfit then why was Kuldeep not picked? Is he there as a tourist?

True. Even if Hardik is returning from an injury layoff and is joining the squad mid-tour, he has proved his fitness back home in a domestic game with 5 wkts and a 70 odd knock. And he can score the same 20 or 30 odd that Rohit can score, field better than Rohit and actually bowl 10-15 overs that Rohit cannot do. It would've given us an extra bowler with no dent to our batting.

You are referring to Rohit right?[DOUBLEPOST=1545775991][/DOUBLEPOST]Happy to see Mayank get a well well deserved debut after a really long time. He must have been played before Shaw, but wasn't. I really hope he brings his last Ranji form into this series.
