India tour of South Africa

Yes it is very annoying to see these pessimistic people here. I dont care about selections. selection dont win you matches performance does.

Selections don't win you matches? That's a very weird statement that I am hearing. A bad selection influences an entire series or tour. We saw how in 2011 when Zaheer Khan was played despite not being up to full fitness and when he broke down on the first day of the test match, how it caused a ripple effect on India's performance (Dhoni famously had to bowl that test) and their entire tour.

Keeping pessimism/optimism aside, it's ridiculous to think team selection isn't important to win matches. You may win one or two matches if you turn out to be lucky but in the long run, you will keep losing series for picking the same/wrong lineup.

Global warming indeed, climate change indeed.

Indian type pitch for an Indian game in the African continent.

Enough said.

Lets play the Under 19 lineup against SA then. Selections don:t matter.

Nope. I dont care and wont feel happy at all seeing this Kohli XI win. Utterly disgusted with the selection choices that I dont care anymore about Indian team winning. And I dont become less patriotic for thinking so.

Pathetic comment. Yes, none of us are happy with the selection. Especially the continuous omission of Rahane and keeping Rohit in the line-up. However, that doesn't stop me for supporting this team or hoping that they go out and perform so we can win this match.

Moving on to the match, not a bad day for India on a pitch like this. However, we need to to take those last 4 wickets very quickly tomorrow. We tend to let the game slip away very often with tail enders. Hopefully that won't be the case this time. Very happy for Ashwin as he finally got a decent spell in this test match and he bowled well. This is the pitch where a second spinner wouldn't have been a bad idea. However, it would have been difficult to fit Jadeja in this line-up.

I said this in last test match as well that Shami has been very moody. I am not sure it is because of his lack of fitness or that he just doesn't want to run in. If it's lack of fitness, it is very surprising since this team is very big on fitness of the players. If he was unwell, he shouldn't have been picked. When he runs in, he can be very good but on days like today, it's just painful to see him bowl. I would rather have Umesh or Bhuvi coming in and giving their 100% especially on a pitch like this where you need to put in effort to make things happen.

India vs South Africa, 2nd Test: Virat Kohli should drop himself if he fails at Centurion, says Virender Sehwag

Sehwag is spot on here. Let's see what happens if Kohli fails here.

Imagine if any forum member here suggested that. They would be laughed off the forum...

Bang on! Very happy to hear this coming from someone significant like Sehwag. Let's see if Kohli has the guts to do that. But I guess he will score some runs tomorrow just in time to keep his place (on a wicket that resembles subcontinent).

India's current position is purely due to two brain fade moments from the South African batsmen. If they had not been involved in those run outs, they'd have finished Day 1 on just 3 wkts loss and would have dominated the day completely. Those two brain fade moments made it look much closer, but still its South Africa ahead.

Until Virat Kohli is the captain, I feel I might not get back the passion that I have always had in following Indian cricket. I will feel happy when people like Dhoni, Pujara, Ashwin, Vijay, Rahane, Bhuvaneshwar do well but I feel this very strong disconnect with this new generation of Indian cricket team, led by Virat Kohli. And I have voiced this disconnect often in recent times in various posts across threads in this forum whenever discussing about Indian cricket. So if my comments come as a surprise to some, I can't help it.

I still follow Indian cricket (99% Cricinfo and this forum; not even inclined to watch games live these days) because its embedded in my system and will take some time to get it off.

Sehwag is an idiot! All the great batsmen went through bad patches in their career, Sachin/Lara/Dravid. Kohli has batted well for so long it was just a matter of time before form evade him.

Less patriotic? Couldve sworn you were an American citizen!

You need to write up an AMA thread in the GD forums bro!

I am not an American citizen, nowhere near it! I still hold an Indian passport. And that has no connection with cricket whatsoever. The team that supposedly represents India is actually a private BCCI XI. This whole 'If you are an Indian and you dont support Indian team, you are not patriotic' thing is BS.

Oh really! How does that logic apply for Rahane then, whose Kohli has decided to play with? He already did the same thing with Pujara and then when Kumble came in, he backed Pujara really hard that Kohli had to stop tinkering with Pujara. Sehwag's reply was more on the sarcastic side as he is disappointed with the way Kohli is handling his players and their selections. And Kohli is no way there in the league of Dravid or Sachin or Lara. The people who are truly be in that league, Kohli is tinkering with their careers (e.g. Rahane, Pujara, etc.).

So drop him as captain then. I am strong Kohli fan as a batsman and made that post purely on his batting, thinkerinh with lineup has to do with lack of leadership pedigree.

Been posting a while now he shouldve never been made captain in the first place!

I'm not liking this one bit from Virat. I just finished watched 105th over from Shami on delayed streaming. Shami was bowling with beautiful upright seam and had just beaten the edge of Faf's bat and hit a four a little wide one in the same over but Virat shouts to Shami just before the last ball to bowl one wide. Shami being a mindful bowler, doesn't to which Virat says I'm telling to bowl one wide BC (BC being a cuss word). Virat, for once let the bowler do his thing. He has done more bowling than you ever will. Does Shami tell you what to do when get in to bat, no, correct? Shami won't bowl wide because Faf is struggling at that 4th/5th stump line while he's finding it easier to punch on the back foot when he's bowled a little wide outside off. Not sure whats Virat's idea here wanting to make Shami bowl wider line.

So much wrong this morning in terms of captaincy that it is not even funny. Th first 45 minutes were just waste of the new ball. Not until Shami and Ashwin bowled did it look like there is any chance of a wicket. Shami and Ashwin bowled beautifully snd we should've finished off the innings by now if not for those dropped catches. Kohli as usual is all talk but useless as a slip fielder. Rahane would've gobbled that one up. Parthiv dropping Faf will cost us another 50 runs. SA already have more than par here. Enjoying this.

335 is 50 runs too many. We will realise that very soon.
