India tour of South Africa

Somebody needs to tell the team management that our tail effectively starts at 5! Saha, Hardik, Ashwin and even Jadeja (if selected) with all his three triple centuries in domestic cricket are not reliable as batsmen in Test match cricket hence, effectively we are carrying 3 allrounders (one wk allrounder be it Saha or Parthiv) in the final XI who cannot actually bat long. Add to that Rohit and Rahul are not the regular members of the team and would be under pressure to cement their place in the side. More so with people like Rahane and Dhawan (despite form) sniffing under their neck. We need to give a spot to someone like Rahane who can bat long hours even if it means playing with Rohit as opener to accommodate Rahane!

The current combination might work in subcontinent conditions where players like Hardik, Jadeja and Ashwin would find it easier bat but in overseas conditions we need genuine batters and we can afford to have that combination since our bowling is going good for the first time in eternity in overseas conditions (outside Asia except for WI).

To be honest our tail effectively consists of everyone except for Kohli. They get the head, it's all done.

Also, going by Kohli's press conference after the loss, do you guys think he realizes he made a mistake in the selection by leaving Rahane out? I think he does because he seemed frustrated and was clearly angry at the reporters.

And when I was of the same view in the Aussie's last tour of India despite India won that series that Kohli got an over-aggressive attitude which isn't suitable for a great captain, You guys were after me... Sooner or later the notion is prevailing. Every captain learns from experience no one is a born and decided great captain

Because till then Kumble had a role to play in the big decisions as well. I am also not against Kohli's over-aggressive brash attitude. It's his interpretation of aggression in tests that needs a calming influence and Shastri is like the match to the gunpowder. No one is born a captain and you learn some things along the way but you are born a leader or not born one. History is proof.

Already talk has started about whether Kohli is a good long-term captaincy option. Obviously there won't be any knee jerk reactions considering that he is playing for a hyper conservative country like India where captains are not chopped and changed that often. But I have a feeling Kohli wont get the same rope that Dhoni got when India went through that horror period of 8-0 overseas. Dhoni survived because of his personality and calm demeanour and the fact that despite the results, he was so respected that they couldn't find a replacement equal to Dhoni.

With Kohli and his lower standards of sportsmanship/personality/calmness, it could become easy for the selectors to take a call on dropping him from captaincy and give it to someone like Rahane, Pujara, Ashwin or even Vijay in tests and give it to Rohit in ODI/T20. Maybe that could be why Kohli is not letting any potential captaincy contenders feel comfortable in the XI. The way he has handled Rahane/Pujara/Vijay in tests and the team in ODI/T20, he is probably trying to make sure no one else is in the vicinity to take over. Only Rohit has somehow been lucky to be groomed as a potential captaincy replacement in the shorter formats but that could easily change this year when we play more overseas games.

Shastri's got to go with him, surely?

Obviously. I would love it if Shastri goes much earlier. :D

Already we have our first overseas series lost with a dead rubber to go. If we lose our next one too, then heads should definitely roll. More so when there was such huge drama/controversy that was enacted to get Kumble out of the way and that too when Kumble had overwhelming home success with the team and was waiting to prove himself along with the team in overseas conditions.

I don't agree with this. He is chopping the team to get his best performers in the team who is in form. I sure agree that his decision to drop Pujara, Rahane and Vijay and whole Kumble issue was horrendous but there is no way Kohli would drop them for the reasons you have stated. He is patriotic and he wants his team to win. He won't drop players just because they could be potential 'captain' material.

So PATRIOTIC? Wedding in Italy.

So what ? If he had married/wedding in India, people would have gone crazy and the whole area will be crowded and police would have hard time controlling the crowd. That's one of the reason it was secret and revealed in last minute. Just because he marries outside India, doesn't mean he is not patriotic.

By your logic, if I go for vacation outside India, I am not patriotic ?

Everyone will have certain imagination in mind that they need to get married at some particular location. Nothing wrong in doing that. Doesn't make it less patriotic.

Last I check I am entitled to my opinion.

Yes I beleive the patriotic thing to do was to have their wedding in India.[DOUBLEPOST=1516773413][/DOUBLEPOST]
Probably the dumbest post I've ever seen.

Post reported for trolling.

Really cant see the analogy between a wedding and a vacation. Poor poor response, really expected more from you.

Anyway lets get back to the cricket at hand.

Looking forward to the pending whitewash!

Okay. When did I tell you that you are not entitled to have your opinion?

Well, we both have different way to analyze what behaviour is patriotic and what behaviour is not patriotic. Let's agree to disagree and move on or continue in PM.

I want to see Umesh in the team today. I really feel he can gain more from these conditions.
