India's Tour of Sri Lanka

Actually Sohum, you're wrong there.

Murali's average vs India in Test Cricket is 29.30.

The only team where Murali averages more is Australia (who he averages 36.06 per wicket against)

The only team Murali owns badly is Bangladesh. He gets 5+ in every innings against them.

India owned Murli. Only Yuvi was in his back pocket. But with Mendis also attacking Indians showed why they are flat track bullies.

There's no need to jump the gun here. Anyone remember the first tests of our tours to England and Australia? Yes, that's right. We did very badly. We came back very strongly. I'm confident we can do it again. You can't just say, "Oh drop the seniors, they failed in one match." It's one freaking match! The thing with Dravid is that he has been so consistent throughout his entire career that when he goes through a slightly bad patch, people are too quick to criticize and blow the issue out of proportion. Everyone is entitled to a bad patch in their career. He'll bounce back soon enough. You cannot just drop him just yet. He's a proven performer at the highest level. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

He looked very good for the brief interval he was there in the first inning.

Shravi and I could not stop saying "SHOT" on MSN :p

That is, until he got bowled :(

Oh right. Just wondering as I kept hearing Kartik's name popping up and I was wondering why Dhoni wasn't behind the stumps.

Cheers Manee

Dhoni must be smiling. He has saved himself of some serious embarrassment. He also benefits from this decision in many ways. One is because if he failed with the bat in this series, his test spot would be in further trouble (it already was after the Aussie tour). Second, with Karthik's failure with the bat and the gloves, people will be tempted to feel that Dhoni was far better (definitely he was reliable behind the stumps!) and its a positive kind of thing for Dhoni to get after he walked on troubled waters when he opted for a rest (its dangerous to rest for an indian cricketer and the selectors/board dont like it)

True.

Dhoni is best compared to Karthik both in batting and gloves..

i m not blaming Karthik because he had some drop catch but always he has been not good in his performance and i don't n why the selectors eye get always him...
Parthiv patel is a good alter Keeper for the Indians if not Dhoni..

and Karthik is also a good fielder than behind the stumps..

the first test match belonged to Murli and not Mendis...

Indians were in fear after the loss in Asia cup.they started practicing on they "have footage" of A Mendis..Coach must have advised all batsmen to play defend hit etc.....in that time the somehow ignored the Lion of spin "Murli"

Murli knew this all concentration will be on Mendis and less on me ..so he took wickets with his speacil deliviers Meanwhile Mendis came and grab few wickets...

Bad day:(

What I was saying that if you look at world-class spinners, Murali has been the most successful against India.

Hell, Warnie had 1 5-wicket haul against India IIRC, in his whole career. Murali had 2 in this match.

sohummisra added 1 Minutes and 6 Seconds later...

That's mainly the effect of the home ground advantage; his record on Indian soil is barely under 40.
Only a fool would prepare a dustbowl when Murali is in the opposition. ;)

indian batsmen need to attack the spin twins rather than be defensive against them.

Obviously a man with over 600 wickets in the game can walk into any side!

Of course he could walk into any top side but i'm asking the best side and that is (or hopefully was) Australia. I'm not down playing his ability i'm downplaying his consistency. For a man with 600 wickets he couldn't bowl as well as Mendis who was on debut. I'm sure Kumble and the rest will hit back (i hope so) but it does annoy me when India show such pathetic consistency considering their experience. Would the top side currently be patient with it? I don't think so.

EDIT: One terrible result is fine but to suffer a second innings defeat in the past 2 series is plainly embarrassing.

Shrav man SL is no England or Australia where pitches were good for batting.

Karthik took that way too far. But I guess in some ways, it was the right thing to do, attacking them, because defending is only delaying the inevitable against Murali in such form.

Dude, facing Lee and Clark in top form on Australian pitches (that's exactly what we got) is pretty much the equivalent of facing Murali and Mendis in Sri Lanka.

:( Bad times are here

Just wait till series finish
