India's Tour of Sri Lanka

Super start by India but I have seen them disintegrate after such starts many a times.

Sehwag batted very well, and Gambhir also put his foot down and worked well for his runs. Both of them batted against Mendis and Murali wonderfully well. Both are in the economy rates of 5+ (mendis was in 6+).

This is the positive start I always wanted from Sehwag and Gambhir.
It is worth of the risk to put Sehwag in opening place.
That is the way to play any spinner who is playing just his 2nd Test. :p
Tricky rain though. There was no rain in 1st test when India wanted and now it is just irritating me.Please Rain go away, let just Sehwag score his 200.

Mendis and Vaas managed to dislodge 4 batsmen but not Sehwag:p

Gud start by Gambhir and Sehwag... But no support from Dravid, Tendulkar and Ganguly... At a stage we were 167/1 and then 178/4... Hope Laxman stays their and support Sehwag to reach his 300... :cheers

Good stuff by India to defy logic and continue to play Dravid at three, bravo! In all seriousness though, Sehwag really has a chance to play a large innings which may win India the game. Although I am not doubting Laxman's ability to play a large innings, I think Karthik's batting will really be tested as runs by him will become vital regardless if Laxman falls straight away or if he scores 100 and I am not optimistic, against the old ball, Karthik rarely looks comfortable.

No Doubt,He is the Full of talent but still somehow He looks more solid in opening slot.
I have seen him in England playing cautiously against Sidebottom and I was really impressed.
If I am not wrong than He was not doing keeping job at that time so somehow Keeping is influencing his batting,I guess. :p

Goodish start from India, the collapse was bad but it could've been a lot worse.

These two are both in form, so If we can get to 300 before losing a wicket i'll be happy.

So many of Sehwag's big innings coincide with the rest of the team being conquered silently. I haven't seen the wicket so I cannot comment, but the big 3 have so far been shaken on this tour. This may be a landmark tour for those vying for their ouster from the Test team.

This is a situation where I would prefer Dhoni to come in after the next wicket fell. He showed in the Asia Cup final that he was one of the few players who knew how to play Mendis, and I think having him would keep Mendis out of the tail for longer than Karthik will manage. However, I hope I'm proven wrong.

Oh, solid knock from The Monk. Who wanted him down the order again??

I still think that it suits both Karthik and Sehwag well in the long run. Karthik is a much better batsman at the top than he is coming in at the end of the middle order. He will not be comfortable playing with the tail enders and shepherding them to a good score if India is in trouble. Sehwag's played well here, but I would much rather take him over Karthik when the middle order is in trouble and he comes in to form a partnership with either Laxman/Tendulkar/Ganguly and the tail-enders. Karthik has been terrific opening in tests. He lead India in runs scored against England in the last series in England. You've said that one of the reasons you want to see Sehwag at the top is that he can take advantage of the pacers, but Sri Lanka usually only bowls their pacers for 10 overs at the start of the innings and then a few later. They are rarely expected to have an effect on the match, compared to their spinners. Yes, Sehwag has played a commendable innings here, but in the long run, I would rather use Karthik in the opening spot in order to extract his full potential and use Sehwag in the role that Gilchrist played for the Aussies in tests. Gilchrist still played huge innings even though he came in at the end of the middle order. I consider Sehwag to be pretty similar to Gilchrist in their attacking styles.
