India's Tour of Sri Lanka

Man, if they drop Badrinath now . . .

He played a great innings today. It was exactly what we needed - someone to hang in there and play a truly Dravidesque innings. He and Dhoni (who I think played brilliantly as well) took us home when we looked in danger.

What do you expect from a fan who has been disappointed for fifteen years in the 50 over format:(? Its just the hype nothing else.

I echo your feelings. Have gone through this very many times.

I would like to see him in the test side also.

Lets wait, Lets wait... Lets not hype him too much. He played a very cool innings today, but he needs more displays like this. I am very very happy to see him do this.

They should drop Rohit Sharma for the next game to fit Gambhir back in. Even Kohli batted well today for his 37. Both Kohli and Badrinath are starting to show their stuff. If it continues, then Badri will be at a disadvantage because Kohli is the more attractive guy when it comes to selectors. Hope Badri knows it and grabs the opportunities in a big way when it comes to him.

Very happy with this win. Satisfying! When I opened IE today morning, I was telling to myself 'By how much would Sri Lanka have won". But surprised to see India getting a hard fought win (they werent even expected for this one).

Zaheer Khan shows once again why he is one of the world's best bowlers in swinging conditions. The chance of him winning a game almost single handedly when there is a touch of swing in the air almost makes up for his deficiencies when there is no swing readily available. The situation is similar for Praveen Kumar, who really is outstanding when there is swing, but can prove flat when there is no swing available - that 125kph bouncer is not going to trouble many international batsmen unless horribly misjudged on a quick pitch.

As for Badrinath - wow! Just wow. Truly magnificent knock against Muralitharan and Mendis in full flow. The innings was critical as Mendis could have easily disposed of the tail with a click of the fingers (or raising of the middle). His technique looks rock solid and what most impressed me was how late he played the ball, without getting himself into a tangle on the front foot or looking rushed. Of course, 27 off 57 balls will not prove a good knock in all situations, but I have no doubt of his ability to both score quickly and build long innings on a regular basis. Furthermore, two very good catches from him too.

Despite scoring 37, I highly disagree with Virat Kohli's inclusion in the squad, much less the side as an opener. I fully believe that there are two obvious players for fourth and fifth opening spots and they are Robin Uthappa; who has not been given enough of a go as opener to be disregarded for that role and Shikhar Dhawan whose domestic record is nothing short of extraordinary, with 1783 runs at 46.92 with a strike rate of 81.15 - and this doesn't even take into consideration his 184 in the Emerging Players Tournament! Moreover, he did very well in the IPL and performing at three (below Sehwag and Gambhir no less), shows that he has potential as a long term project to bat three in the future.

Badri should have been called up into the test side first since he is a player who takes his time to build his innings and his FC average proves it. If he has a couple of bad matches now, he will not be considered for selection any more unless he has a 2000 run season. The South side players perform twice as good as the northerners just to get "noticed", but are still not selected:(.

Well they tried hard to loose but somehow manage to win.

Special thanks to Badri Bhai.

The only thing I didnt like abt Badrinath was how he batted with the tail. Hope he doesnt develope a "VVS" type deficiency in him. Anyways an very good batsmen and a very good fielder. Hope he gets consistent chances to prove his worth.

ant the team ask for replacement for Viru. Venu Gopal would have been ideal for these wickets.

He is not an ideal ODI player. I dont have the confidence in him for big hitting. I have it in Badrinath. Plus Venu is at best a good fielder.

If Badri does well in this series, then he can stake a strong claim for the Australia test matches. Either of Ganguly or Dravid will pave way for a newcomer in that series. But I sincerely hope he does well consistently. He has to not only do well, but he has to do it in noticeable fashion (he is from the South).

Sai - then you obviously didn't see Venu for DC, he was absolutely gunning them out of the ground.

Tremendous character shown by Badri today under pressure against M&M, way to stick up the middle finger at the selectors!

And LOL at the ball hitting Mendis in the eye, HAHA. Nice one Badri!

Drop Pathan. Bring back Gambhir. Keep Virat Kohli. Keep Subramaniam Badrinath. When Sehwag is back, drop Kohli. When Sachin comes back? I think Sachin should concentrate on one format of the game because at this rate, he isn't going to retire with dignity, but rather, be dropped by Dhoni/the selectors.
