International Cricket 2010 Impressions Thread

Hi guys, I'm a new member :)

I bought the game today, inspired with confidence by the positive things I have read on here. I too have bought many cricket games in the past (BL 99, 05, 07, several EA cricket games and Ashes 09) but due to various game-killing bugs only BL 99 was any good vs the AI! (tho i had some epic 2 player games on BL 07, not online, with some of my mates who also love cricket). It seems from posts on here that the worst bugs from Ashes 09 have been fixed and the graphics seem improved too, just started a 50 over ODI between India and Sri Lanka (AI) on a pitch taking a bit of seam and more spin in Colombo. Sri Lanka won the toss and are batting first, I'll let you know how things go in a bit :)

With the news that Codies are likely to release a World Cup game on the PC, I'm not sure if I should hold fire on this one or not. Would the World Cup game be a cash in, or will it have proper content including Tests as well?

Guys i need you to tell me that wether i should continue playing this match or not

Game : SL(Me) V Eng
Venue : Headingley

Toss : Eng won the toss and elected to bat

Eng : Ist Inn - 112 all out in 31.2 over

Pieterson : 44*(66)
Prior : 30(32)

SL : 255/3 of 17 overs

Parateeva : 82(39)
Sangakkara : 81(33)
Jeyawakana : 64*(21)
Samaraweka : 22*(6)

Difficulty : Hard with min HUD for batting n bowling using action cam

Summary : this is my second game with AI first being a T20 on hard again same settings which i won comfortably and scored 239 runs

1. coming to test Eng went in to bat and collapsed in almost a little more than 1 session(unrealistic)
2. I did not used any close in fielders and gave them quite a few gaps ,had i not done that they wud not have managed this much
3. batting now i read here that batting in test is very difficult but again just have a look at the scores and i never go boom boom style i tried a few ground shots before lofting the shots this means once the batsman is set he can hit at will
4. I played against Eng becoz they are rated best in bowling
5. I had the impression that you cannot go boom boom when u r just new to crease so tried that with jayawanke and samarweera and u can see there strike rate
6. I want to bat like test but the AI should trouble me somehow so that i have to play defensive shots but that is not the case
7. I heard in HEATH INTERVIEW that no 2 balls from AI will be same which is false

If this is the case with batting and bowling against AI then its bye bye to offline and MP is already bugged as u all know
whats the point of IC10 a huge improvement

i dont want to disheart anyone but this what i was least expecting

correct me if am wrong anywhere guys

I never heard Hsmith say "no two deliveries will be the same", he did say that no two "bowled/breaking of the stumps" will be the same and that is true.

Lonewolf you seem to be one of those exceptional players.
Turn HUD off for both batting and bowling use action cam and see how that goes. I believe they put that option in so that no matter how good a player you are you will be able to play on a harder level and enjoy the challenge

played on HUD off and was 75/1 though not that fast RR but it was around 6 RPO
the thing is that in HUD off its all guesswork which i have not liked
played an online game with thanda on HUD off which obviously got disconnected after sometime
we had a discussion and went back to play a T20 on AC09 lol

No. I've heard absolutely nothing to think it is true, beyond one line in an article focusing mostly on other things, which I certainly wouldn't back unless I'd heard it from other sources.

You are obviously a god

So I started my first game yesterday, tried a ODI on hard (full HUD for now, action cam) I was India, AI Sri Lanka. They won the toss and batted first on a pretty balanced pitch, making 355 all out off 49.3 overs, Kadambardy (or whatever his name is :P) making an unbeaten 115 off 85 balls, Sangakarra and Sammarweera also made 50's, Jayawardene and Dilshan got 30's. I had them under decent control early on, got Tharanga for 6, strangled down leg off Zaheer, and got Dilshan for a run a ball 30 (caught behind off a great slower ball from Sharma) to leave them 50-2 off 10 :banana2 However Jayawardene and Sangakara dug in and scored steadily, taking few risks until settled before taking the attack and getting them too 120-2 off 20. I eventually got Jayawardene off Nehra and Sangakara followed not long afterwards, caught at point off Sharma, about 140-4. I took wickets steadily but Kadambady destroyed me, getting settled before slamming my bowlers all over the shop in the last 15. I eventually had Mendis out in the last over to get them all out, but 355 is a big total :(

I must say i found bowling with the seamers alot better, and i found the pitch realistic too - it did help my quicker bowlers early on, but flattened out after 25+ overs. However bowling with the spinners was difficult...computer was hooking and cutting good length balls (that were pretty straight too) off Harbajhan for 4 or 6 all the time! Not very realistic either, hoping this is a one-off cos one of the reasons i hated AC09 was that every spin bowler i bowled went at 20 an over even in tests! :facepalm Harbajhan went for 80 off 10, compared to more respectable efforts from Sharma, Nehra and Zaheer. However two human errors from me also cost me that big total they scored - firstly i neglected to bring 5 proper bowlers, instead relying on Yusuf Pathan, Sehwag, Yurvaj and Tendulkar to make up 10 overs... Yusufs 7 went for 70 odd, Sehwag went for 15 off 1, Yurvaj 17 off 1, only Tendulkar had a bit of success (he bowled the last over), getting Mendis caught deep off his 3rd delivery :hpraise Secondly I also bowled like 15 no balls, 12 of which resulted in free-hits going for boundries (6 fours, 6 sixes), costing me an extra 75 odd runs  Plus i dropped a few catches :facepalm I i'd cut back on no-balls, bought a proper bowler and held more catches then i might have kept them below 300, maybe even close to 250! Oh well, was very happy overall, the AI was tough but paced their innings well, took advantage of my mistakes and loose bowling. Looks like a good challenge.

I tried batting for a bit - its tough! I lost Gambhir lbw for a golden duck to a vicious inswinger from Malinga, managed to get a partnership of about 25 going (5 overs gone) mostly singles (one leg glance for 4) between Sehwag and Tendulkar, but then slashed at a wide ball with Sehwag and was caught behind :( I decided to save at this point (I had real cricket practice). I'm going to go back to that game a bit later I think, for now I'm going to try a test match (hard, AC, full hud) between West Indies and England (AI) in Antigua (quick pitch but flattens out).

A few extra points i found

- Graphics, sound effects and commentary are all much better. No sign of bumble yet...what grounds does he make an apperance at?

- Still no licenses other than Eng and Aus, but squads are otherwise good, a few glaring mistakes (Flintoff still in squad and overpowered, no Tamim, Vermualen being black, no beard for Amla, glasses for Vettori or Turban for Harbajhan). Kemar Roach is a bit slow apparently - i heard someone recommend i make him a bit quicker for extra realism, mit do that jst now.

- Gameplay (the singular MOST important thing in a game) is much improved too, there are a still a few bugs but no real game-busters, hopefully the worst (AI successfully hooking yorkers :facepalm) can be ironed out in a patch. Also u can move fields for free-hits, which isnt allowed in real life.

- Action cam works well, i like the option of playing broadcast too tho.

Anyone got any tips with spinners? maybe im bowling them wrong, maybe just a bad pitch against strong settled batsman, maybe my fields are awful, who knows :p

Will update u on next game, let u know my impressions of a test game :)

Hmm You are right,Guessed it wasn't....

Just finished the first session of my first ever test match between the West Indies and England (AI) at Antigua (full HUD, hard, action cam). I won the toss on a hot day and chose to bat first on a pitch that was quick but fairly flat too, and I set out to try and blunt the new ball attack with some careful batting before hopefully accelerating as the ball got older. Gayle and Barath put on 49 off about 16 overs for the opening wicket, with Gayle doing most of the scoring and Barath really struggling. Barath (10 off 56 balls) eventually fell to Tim Bresnan's 4th over, trying to push a single to mid-on and nicking it to 3rd slip where Cook held the chance. Sarwan and Gayle kept going at a steady rate, but with the score on 68 off 28 overs Gayle tried to pull a back of a length ball from Collingwood, but it stayed a bit low (and was maybe a bit fuller than i thought). He missed it, the ball clipped the top of middle stump and he walked for 41 off 86 balls. I thought I would dig in until lunch, but the AI was smart - after an over from Swann at the other end it immediatly withdrew Colly from the attack (despite his wicket) and bought back a refreshed Anderson for the last over before lunch, and his first ball pitched on a length, swung away, caught the edge of Chanderpauls (0 - a golden duck) bat and flew to first slip where Strauss held on. Nash saw out the rest of the over, hitting a couple of two's into the offside, to leave me on 73-3 at lunch. It was a tough session, England got some bounce and movement from the pitch but very little swing, and I had hoped to see off the morning session with only 1 (at very most 2) wickets down and then take control a bit more in the afternoon. Hopefully i can put on a good score but i think England edged that session. Really fun and I'm finding it challenging even with HUD on, have to concentrate every ball and can be hard to judge the line and length at times.

Isn't it funny that many bowlers in the game have the Akhtar sling action yet the ones that actually have some sort of sling in real life (Malinga, Edwards and to some extent Johnson) have generic actions?

That is a shame. Is it just me or does Swann bowl with a leg spin action?
