If only we had a points system as in chess to rate the mafias and town, and thereby bring them on par with each other?
Just make the total for all the roles as close to 0 as possible, making sure you don't have more than 1 mafia per 3 players.
TOWN-ALIGNED ROLES
Cop - +7
Apprentice Cop (becomes cop if cop is dead) - +4
Special Role Cop (told if that player has a special role) - +3
Private Investigator (1/game, is told if one or more of the person targeted, one above, and one below are mafia) - +3
Doctor (no restrictions) - +5
Doctor (can't protect same person each night) - +3
Priest (1/game, docs target until targeted once) - +3
Magician (reviver 1/game, vig 1/game) - +4
Ghost (dies night 1, can pass notes to the mod to post) - +2

Old Hag (removes target from game during one day phase) - +1
Old Man - dies on day (remaining mafia + 1) - 0
