Done with the characters/roles of my game - 14 of them as of now. Just before I start trialing/simulating, I'd like to know what happens generally when a mafia GF is hammered? Do any of his fellow mafia mates inherit his killing abilities?
 
Normally yes. Two ways of doing it. Either it passes to the underboss or the mafia elect a new godfather and miss a night kill for that night.

It's totally up to you, the mod. You can make someone inherit it; you can have the mafia elect someone; you can have no one have it, so the power dies with the GF. The GF doesn't even have to have it - in some games, the GF just decides who peforms the kill.

Mafia doesn't have iron clad rules that roles have to perform in a specific way. It's all up to the mod. Some even make up roles. I did for Smurfs (Chewie was the Powerful Baby). The only tricky part is balancing.

Couldn't agree more. Ventured around some of the online mafia forums to find a solution to attaining 100% balance in the game, and from what I saw, the opinions were just divided. If only we had a points system as in chess to rate the mafias and town, and thereby bring them on par with each other? :/

As for my simulation, it largely came down to my own assumptions in the end. In the only game that I simmed - the town won with 4 members to spare. In an alternative ending (other side of my assumption), the mafia won having arrived at a 1 vs 1 situation.

Just make the total for all the roles as close to 0 as possible, making sure you don't have more than 1 mafia per 3 players.

TOWN-ALIGNED ROLES

Cop - +7
Apprentice Cop (becomes cop if cop is dead) - +4
Special Role Cop (told if that player has a special role) - +3
Private Investigator (1/game, is told if one or more of the person targeted, one above, and one below are mafia) - +3

Doctor (no restrictions) - +5
Doctor (can't protect same person each night) - +3
Priest (1/game, docs target until targeted once) - +3
Magician (reviver 1/game, vig 1/game) - +4

Ghost (dies night 1, can pass notes to the mod to post) - +2
Mason - +2
Old Hag (removes target from game during one day phase) - +1
Old Man - dies on day (remaining mafia + 1) - 0
Cupid (makes a pair of lovers night 0) - -3
Drunk (doesn't know special role until after 2 days) - -3
Diseased townie (no attack night after killed) - +3

Martyr (can take the place of someone lynched) - +3

I think that simulating can only get you so far as town lynches/investigations are often far from logical and depend more on the player than the role.
For example in Aditya and mine's game we really weren't anticipating the town lynching the doctor on day 1.
I think the key is to build the game so you can always do some balancing later through write-ups or hidden roles.

Don't take it literally. :p By simulating, I meant running it by myself by ordering random night kills and random day lynches initially. As the game progresses, I try to personify each role and see what they have made of the game until then, and accordingly choose my next target. If that guy's still clueless, I again go with a random lynch/target.

lol I missed this post of yours yesterday. Looks very interesting, can't wait to get my hands on that.
 
Really liking that sim, though a number of key roles like the miller, roleblocker, etc. are missing.
 
Thanks. I'll run that as a newbie game then. The movie series doesn't feature too many characters, so 14 roles is all I could come up with. If anything, I'll try making it 13, else it shall remain a 14 man game.

Will get the thread created sometime around midnight IST, if that's fine by the others. Else I'll open it once Conspiracy365 mafia ends. Thanks again.
