Mar 17 : England vs West Indies

One thing to be considered is, Suppose if England win today, they will finish on 7 pts.

Then if that SA-Bangladesh match is abandoned...they will also finish on 7 pts.....so England, if they win today, will have to be careful about their NRR as well and shouldnt allow it to slip drastically...

The whole problem with Anderson is that his role in the ODI side is to be a Test player. He does play pretty well when there's something in the pitch, but his tactics and execution are well below standard on a belter.

I agree that it is stupid, but it's not a good enough excuse for consistently poor performances, one or two, fine, it happens. Since the Ashes finished the eye has been off the ball.

If you've been away for such a silly amount of time I'd wager it would have an effect on how concentrated you are and thus the inconsistency.

The ICC still can't seem to get the balance right, they either have too many games in a short time or a ridiculous schedule where some teams have like a week rest.

Don't blame the ICC its not there fault, for once, blame the ECB and CA.

It's not too bad a total, but you feel we should have got 40 more.

If we get Gayle early this WI batting line up looks fragile.

England 243 all out! But, will that be enough to defend against the West Indies?:spy

hmm....244 target.....After L.Wright fell, they added another 27 runs....lets see whether this becomes crucial....

Also England didnt bat their full 50 overs...if its a close finish, those 8 balls :D might be crucial for them....

englands NRR is already better than bangladesh's, a win here will see it improve and a no result would see bangladesh's remain the same.

The only teams that NRR is a factor between is india and england, india's having to drop by losing to the windies and englands raising by beating the windies (the windies own run rate is so good that it should remain the best)

the only other way NRR can come into it is if bangladesh totally smash south africa, but that's unlikely.

243 is not such a bad score, if England can get Gayle and Pollard early, the game will be belonged to England. Bresnana and Swann needs to work hard today in their bowling. :thumbs

But I wish it will be a competitive game, though I support India first. :clap

Shite happens.

............to be playing.

England will never learn, opening with Prior and shocker he didn't do much. Bell plods along in low gears and doesn't even go on to a big score. Shight might have got 44, but he will no doubt bowl just 4-5 overs at six an over and that will be his bowling for the game. Teeny Bopar picked his time to fail, Morgan likewise.

Really need to make inroads early on, but why oh why oh why are England PERSISTING with four bowlers and bits n pieces making up the rest?!?!? We need to bowl the windies out, Tredwell is playing for the first time in the competition and has little experience in ODIs full stop. Tremlett likewise, although I do hope for more from him.

Still, if we go out it won't be as if it is unlucky or undeserved, England have been poor even in victory.

17 runs below par score for a D/N match at the Chepauk . And once again , England fail to bat out their quota of 50 overs ! Ian bell's sweep shot and Morgan's reverse sweep all have become a joke to the opposition now . And was Trott drunk ?? Never seen him play this aggressive before , but once again , he proves the fact that he can't play the leggies well .

The England side have been at home for three days since late October.
But what about the England players? If Yardy or Wright weren't in the Tests, then it's hardly accurate to say they've been on the road for 6 months. For that matter, it's quite easy for an Australian cricketer to be 1000km from home for two months in an Ashes summer.

Anderson did get two weeks off after the 5th Test. Morgan and Swann each spent a month at home with minor injuries, while Bresnan also went home early for a shorter convalescence. Bopara only came into the squad for the World Cup.

There are definitely a few players who have been on the road a long time, but Strauss and Trott are among them. It's hard to see it as a major downside while they are the two leading run scorers of the tournament so far.
