NBA Discussion Thread

The fact Shaq signed for the league minimum for a veteran says a lot about his worth these days...

Anybody keeping an eye on Team USA this time around? I like the team a lot but they'll struggle to get past the semis with a small and defensively weak line-up. They'll blow the weaker teams out of the water regularly as they have ridiculous speed and good shooters, but they'll falter badly when up against a decent defensive team.

The game against Lithuania today should serve as a bit of an eye opener for USA. We were much better defensively but they were incredible inside and really exposed our weaknesses in the first half. The Americans just couldn't get a shot up in the first period and were shooting well under 20%. I expect them to lose against Spain tomorrow but will be glued to the TV hoping for a win.

Well Team USA went 5-0 in the round robin stage. Brazil was the only team that really contested, losing by just 2 points.

Will be interesting to see them take on the stronger teams, now. Although it looks like all the big teams are missing players to injuries/rest.

I can't watch football for my life. I always go to Superbowl parties and pick a team to root for :p. And I watch the annual UofM vs OSU, MichState vs UMich games. that's about it.
Doesn't help that I come from the land of the oh-so-amazing Lions :p

NBA, on the other hand, I follow regularly.

We needed to win by 12... Tom Abercrombie with 6 seconds on the clock hits the three and we win by 12!! Three wins in a row and we're through! And to think only about 5 people play Basketball over here :laugh

Kirk Penney 2nd top PPG. Abercrombie is a freak, just throw the ball near the hoop and he'll throw it down. Maybe we can do better than 2002 when we made the semis, I hope so.

Can anyone tell me if we still do the Haka? I just watched the Tall Blacks haka on youtube and no offense to the boys but it was funny seeing tall lanky guys doing it.

Yes. The commentators during the USA-Angola match just now said how they hope New Zealand beats Russia so we can get to see them do the Haka. :p

I'm hoping to catch the NZL-Russia game today anyway though.

Man, the USA crushed Angola. Was watching for a while but it got boring... kinda like me versus the computer in NBA 2K10. :p

New Zealand lost to Russia as well. Russia-USA should be interesting. I think Russia historically have had good bigs and the US is lacking in size.

Looking forward to Brazil-Argentina tomorrow as well. Luis Scola is a beast and the fact that Ginobili isn't playing makes the team easier to support.

Fouls cost us. We were only down by 4 when our two key players picked up their fourth fouls. Then when Penney (the second top points scorer in the comp) was on the bench we scored F*** all points.

Not to mention the offensive fouls on Penney were pathetic!! grrrrrr

When a one man team gets poor calls on that one man, they usually lose.

Not a surprise. The only time these guys play with each other is during the all-star game, which isn't really an exhibition of team basketball.

I'm worried about Argentina, though. Looks like they're getting blown out by Lithuania.

Not really a surprise, that. Argentina have been missing some key players and Lithuania's inside defense is ridiculous. That said, I didn't think they'd get blown out. Lithuania gave the US quite the tough time in the exhibitions, and they've only gotten much better, so I'm expecting a rather tight USA-Lith semi-final. Really really looking forward to Turkey-Serbia as well. Basically my four favorite teams in the tournament have gotten into the semis.
