New Brian Lara Cricket is in Development !!!

No one would ever dis-agree with titles like " Sachin Tendulkar World Cricket 2008/2009? or Sir Donald Bradman World Cricket Titles?.."

I'm curious..

You're probably right, I see a title like 'World Cricket 2008'.

Codies isn't going to be making any more cricket games. They have passed on the licensing to Red Mile Entertainment. Codies can't be bothered now trying to get the licensing done through the ICC. Its too hard for them and would be damn expensive. It won't be called Brian Lara International Cricket either. In Australia it will still be Ricky Ponting or maybe Shaun Marsh International Cricket? In England it might be Kevin Pieterson International Cricket. Who knows what's going to happen.

Codies aren't gonna give up their Cricket series so easily ... if you read the interview it clearly says Red miles is making the game for Codemasters. They will publish the game and it will be called "Codemaster's ....whatever Cricket ...." Red Mills is just a production company they will make the game but codies will publish it.

Nice time frame, good budget and being made by an Australian based subsidiary, looks promising.

Sounds good that it's being made by Aussies, they know a thing or two about cricket, eh?

MasterBlaster76 added 5 Minutes and 59 Seconds later...

As long as they mention the phrase "Total rework of the batting" I might take a look at it. If the phrase "Builds on an already great batting system" is used, I wont even bother looking at a demo.

I loved the batting system in BLIC 2007, they nailed it as far as I'm concerned (apart from the lack of front foot/back foot choice). The thing I didn't like was the ease with which you hit sixes and fours. Also, they've got to do something about the bowling, the amount of times someone got themselves out by leg-glancing the ball onto the stumps just wasn't funny! I don't think I've ever seen that happen in a real match (at least, very rarely).

They need to get some really knowledgeable cricket people onboard, some players that are also keen gamers would be ideal.

The change of studio is not really an improvement. The UK has a much better development scene than Australia at this point, most of the GTA series has been created by Rockstar North in Edinburgh, which is the same studio that created the classic puzzle game Lemmings. Codies themselves have a long history of successful games. Other acclaimed UK based developers include Eidos, who created Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman and Thief; Rare, who developed Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Battletoads and Donkey Kong for Nintendo; or Creative Assembly, who have made the Total War series of strategy games.

Some great games have come out of Australian studios though; indeed Creative Assembly's latest Total War game was developed in Brisbane. You might remember Beam Software's Super International Cricket or the classic RPG Shadowrun (a brilliant game to hunt down if you're a retro gamer or ROM junkie). These games were developed by the studio formerly known as Melbourne House, now owned by Krome Studios, who are developing the hotly awaited Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Last year's critically acclaimed adventure BioShock was developed by 2K's studios in Boston and Canberra; previous titles to come from this developer include the revolutionary System Shock and the superhero RPG Freedom Force, plus the very popular SWAT 4.

The studio of choice however is not one of these. It is Transmission Games, formerly known as IR Gurus. Australians might recognise this as the developer of the AFL Live/AFL Premiership series. Although this proves Transmission have experience working on sports games, none of the six games in the series could really be described in any way as impressive. In fact, quite explicitly, if you're after AI improvements, don't look here.

The change of studio is undeniably to cut costs and free up resources that could be directed at a more important project.

Personally, I still find BLIC07 to be a fun game. The learning curve is short, so it's only difficult for a weekend, but it remains fun. There is a glimmer of sound gameplay in there; the AI might often fail to set a mid on and mid off when firing down an over of yorkers, but sometimes, it does get it right, it bowls a good line and length to the right field and the game does become a bit harder to play. It feels a lot more real, if only for a spell. It really isn't too far from being a very good game and just the fact that they designed it for online play negates its biggest issues to a large extent.

I agree with most of your points ... I m doubtful about this new installment of Brian Lara series (if they still gonna call it brian lara !!) ... lets hope they dont make it too arcady ... Right now this studio is making Brian lara for PS3 and 360. It will take them probably a few years to make a decent game the first one might be a lame one like BLIC 07 ... EA Cricket is much better and I m looking forward specially their boss Peter is an English and he knows what Cricket is... not like other EA Sports boses who thinks there is no World outside North America, so why bother to make any other game.

From memory the guys at IR Gurus (Transmission Games) were constantly restricted by budget and limited time schedules. It could be said that an international title such as this would alleviate most of those concerns and allow them to produce better quality sports titles. I agree that the initial one may not be the 'be all' title we ask for but there is definitely hope for the future.

I dunno. I really loved BLC 98 and even BLIC 05 to a lesser degree, but 07 really disappointed me. So, i'll try a demo, then decide and not before. :noway

Has there been any news, really want to play a cricket game on my ps3

Yeah, I tend to think programming and design are things that benefit from a "when its done" approach no matter who has to do the work, but it's rare to see that. Especially in a circumstance like this, which is clearly outsourcing. It really just means that Codemasters made an offer that meant Transmission employees could continue eating.

They might do better than HB Studios, though.

looks like it gonna be released on PS3 & 360 around ASHES ... but is there any press release that says about the features of the game? and any screenshots???

i hope the ipl is incorporated in the next edition

That would be a stand alone license wouldn't it? I doubt Codies would release a title based on that comp alone.

i said it should be incorporated, not a game based on ipl alone.
