This should be a really good series. I wonder how well New Zealand will cope against both Shillingford & Narine? And nice to see Jerome Taylor back.

The Future of West Indies had always Been bright. until years ago, where the player keep the Matters off the field. WI also had issue with WICB in the past, but always left it out of the Field . In todays generation of Cricket they keep that even on the field they plays poorly due the issue of WICB. Not only this issue, unlike the 80's where WI was always winning, but now in this generation Selector doesn't give the younger Talent a Good run, And when a Player is drop because of Poor form, they dont get notice and nothing have been done to give them encouragement to improve there performance. Another thing is I am not blaming the T20 Competition, but due to Poor salary given to WI players, they look for alternative to gain Money from, unlike the 80s they played for the Pride, But the 80s team did one time run behind Money in Australia, where the WICB ban all of them from playing Cricket for WI. but due to the Consistency of those player they were retain, and very again did they run behind Money and up to V Richard the team played for Pride alone with given a few cash.
West Indies down fall, was alot of the old player left one time, which the younger players were unable make WI sucess a few Group tried in the last 90's When WI was on the down fall. Coming into the 00's I am not going against Lara, just to make it clear. The players started standing up the Cricket Board refusing to play if they don't get there contract sorted out under Lara. And from there With all the Board problem, Selection Panel problem keep dropping player for no sort of reason or don't let them play a good amount of matches. It seem players started to get fed up with WICB, and looked for other teams , where the IPL came around and so on. where they get paid big amount of Money to do what they love. Sammy era, may have been the worst era for alot of people, but it had Expose alot of other Talent outside Gayle, Sarwan, Nash, Devon Smith, Samuels, DJ Bravo, J Taylor, etc . Which again it's a Good sign for WI, but the Question is, How well will West Indies Selection panel and WICB handle these player. How Well will the selection panel use these player and how well will they be manage to give West Indies a great Future.
The Talent is there , The Stage is there, but without a Push The talent cant do nothing, they need to know what are they playing for and must have pride to play for WI. and not have in it in there Mine that the WI selector may pick me today and drop tomorrow.

As West Indies keep moving forward we need to stop given 10 players a Debut every year, work with the players find who is capable from who is not. and Stop thinking we will dominate or what WI to dominate from Day 1. Sammy era laid a Foundation for WICB to build on. Its all about going forward not and stop looking back. Looking for At least get to Rank 6 by next year. its not impossible, but have to work hard. and now we can have a Balance team again if WI selectors pick the right 11.

Thanks very insightful and excellent opinion, I also believe it is not impossible, especially if you look at the other teams in the world today, there are no great teams currently and I believe no other team has better spin bowlers than west indies, narine is very dangerous, they must give him enough time and the right pitches, he was dropped after only 1 poor series against Bangladesh. They cant pick his doosra which makes him dangerous in any format of the game. I believe if the correct bowling attack is picked 20 wickets can be taken, its only the runs that is needed on the board.

I think if the pitch is spin friendly new Zealand will struggle, they will not be able to pick narine, guys that have been playing against him in the ipl for 3 seasons now are still not able to pick him, they might play benn as he is performing well and bring another dimension, shillingford can still give the ball a rip, the only problem is he cannot bowl his doosra

I watch very few West Indian domestic matches "live", so may I know how Delorn Johnson has performed? He was pretty impressive against India a couple of years back, but he has not been in the limelight since.

And does anyone else feel time has come for Gibson to quit? I feel he has not done much, except for the WT20 and the odd test victory.

There is a big difference between trying to pick someone in a T20 and a test match.
Narine pretty much got taken apart by Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
In test matches players have time to play him out and wait for the bad delivery and take singles at will.
Same sort of thing happened to Mendis.
Not sure why they went to Benn, seems to be a Tino Best experiment.

Has Gabriel done something so amazing to get back into the test team? While Johnson still sits on the sidelines...
Looks like a Dinesh Ramdin selection.
At least it looks like Holder will finally get a chance in the test team. About a year overdue.

And in the Sagicor vs Bangladesh A match all the wickets taken by the West Indians in the first innings were taken by fast bowlers.
Carlos Brathwaite stepping up and taking top order wickets. Now he needs yo score some runs and try to force him self into the test team as an all rounder.

West Indies announce Test training squad | WEST INDIES CRICKET BOARD

FULL SQUAD

Denesh Ramdin (Captain)

Sulieman Benn

Darren Bravo

Dwayne Bravo

Shiv Chanderpaul

Kirk Edwards

Shannon Gabriel

Chris Gayle

Jason Holder

Sunil Narine

Shane Shillingford

Kieran Powell

Kemar Roach

Marlon Samuels

Jerome Taylor

Roach raring to go again vs New Zealand | WEST INDIES CRICKET BOARD

So with Gibson saying that the WI will go with 6 specialist batsman and 4 bowlers does that mean there is no room for Dwayne Bravo?
It would make sense to have him at #6 because on paper the top 5 looks like it could hold its own.
I would really like to see room for Edwards but he can't get into the team if Bravo plays there is no room for Edwards other then open which really isn't how spot.
Until Chanders retires I don't see a spot for Edwards.

I hope that the West Indies Selectors look towards young players when they choose the first test line-up. I do not see any reason why players like Samuels and Gayle are afforded so many chances to perform when others are dropped without enough of an opportunity.

My team would be: Powell, Gayle, Edwards, Darren Bravo, Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo, Randim, Narine, Shillingford, Roach and Taylor. Samuels has performed poorly in the past year and does not deserve a spot in the side for the first test.

Hmm this is a interesting one. Another example of the IPL messing up weak boards like WI & NZ. WI have already given up their entire peak months (January-May) off their home season, to avoid clashes with the IPL season - now this

I can understand WI position, especially if as the article is stating the NOC certificate had set for his arrival on June 1st, but this is tricky.

I notice NZ captain, McCullum isn't in the caribbean yet also & could face a similar dilemma is CSK qualifies for the IPL final today. Will be interesting to see how the NZC boards reacts to McCullum...

Looks like a Dinesh Ramdin selection.

What happened to Nairne in that 2012 BANG series is not relevant. Why still harp on it. In his most recent test in NZ 2013, he took a 6 wicket haul & looked just as dangerous as he does in T20s.

I see use in Benn. If conditions in Guyana & Trinidad are as spinner friendly as expected, Windies could easily play Narine/Shilly/Benn in the same XI. Taylor or Roach would be the lone seamer & DW Bravo would be the next quick.

Gabriel form what i understand showed improved accuracy in the 4-day season & his figures of 22 wickets, 7 matches @ 21.09 was the best for any seamer in the season behind Taylor. So, i don't think its fair to label it as Ramdin/TT biased selection.

But then again when the squad is narrowed for the 1st test, I expect Gabriel to be axed.
