Test form on one test match? Biig form that is, one innings too.
As opposed to 4 innings on spin friendly wickets of Bangladesh. That too against a side like Bangladesh.
The point I made was that in tests he won't be nearly as effective as he has been on the IPL which was suggested earlier. Because players don't have to attack him in test matches.
One innings or not, it is improvement. Are you saying you were not impressed or encouraged by what he showed he showed in that innings vz NZ then?
BANG may be the whipping boys of international cricket, but Narine isn't a first player to have a bad games versus them.
Overall i hear a lot of windies fans of people trying to perpetuate this strange theory that Narine won't be as effective in tests because people don't have to attack him. I don't buy it. Narine has all the skills out fox batsmen in the longer format who are less attacking/defensive.
Its almost as if people won't get over his blimp in BANG & ignore that he actually showed those skills in his others tests vs NZ already & in FC cricket.
Narine is the most talented & lethal spinner in the world alongside Ajmal. But the Windies team keep finding strange ways to leave him out of the test team.
Looking at the west indies domestic stats so did every other spinner. And a good amount of them don't come with problems that Benn brings. Bishoo had just as good a year, so did imran khan, martin, miller, permaul. And if anyone deserves that spot it a Bishoo.
Benn took him self out of the team with his attitude.
But then I'm not surprised they did the same thing with Best.
Benn was part of a Barbados team that won the Super50 & the league format of the 4-day tournament this year. So I'm guessing being part of a winning team aided in his recall.
Bishoo could have played yes - but I don't see an issue with Benn playing.
And again why is Benn's attitude problems of the past still an issue? Its 4 years now since he was dropped because of this. Can't players improve?
If AUS had dwelled on David Warner's attitude problems forever after he punched Joe Root in the face on tour, they wouldn't have recalled him & he wouldn't have had such a dominant two test series vs ENG & S Africa recently.
Exactly. He should not put an IPL team above the national team.
Everyone used to criticize players when the IPL started but now its somehow fair for a player to come a few days before a test match and jump in and play after not playing first class cricket for months.
How is it fair to the players who put in the work and attend these training camps for weeks before a test series to get put on the bench so a player who chose IPL over nation wlaks into the team.
Show up, prepare like everyone else and play. Simple equation.
Narine wanted to play both. WICB has a new policy clearly stating they have created a window for IPL, so that they players can join & that the home international no longer clashes with the IPL. This is why for example for the 1st time in windies history this year, you will be playing a test match in september.
So why put the deadline for players to return on the day of the IPL? That makes no sense, especially when you have the opposition NZ team & its IPL players not getting no static from its board about when they should be in the Caribbean for their warm up games?
WICB were wrong in the past for during the early days of IPL, which is why Gayle was stupidly banned.
WICB gets 10% cut for their players being in IPL also. Preparation in international cricket is negligent. Players are accustomed to adjusting in very short space of times across formats & between series with minimal or no strong warm up games. They are highly skilled professionals.
The only way the WICB would have been in the right is if the IPL final clashed with the 1st test & Narine chose to stay instead.
