The Pitch

This Westpac stadium pitch has the markings on being a pro-pace pitch but one which will also offer something for the spinners in the later stages of the game. The pitch will be hard and bouncy early and will let the ball nip around a bit. Conditions will also suit the swing bowlers with the new ball early. A score of around 260 is definitely required on this pitch?

The Crowd

Attendance: 38,928

The Weather

Forecast: Early cloud clearing during evening
Rain chance: 10%
Temperature: 22-18

Expert tip

New Zealand to win by 2 wickets

Yet another fiery encounter is expected between the two teams as they battle it out again. The injury mind games have already begun and will continue throughout the series. Whatever happens, an exciting game of ODI cricket is about to unfold?

The Toss

The Toss has been won by Stephen Fleming who has elected to bowl?

Yup. Also would like to see how Chris Martin performs. The second bowler has been a problem so far for the home side. Scott Styris is one of my ideal ODI players, as he can bat and bowl well.

hope nz can get up and win this one
Seconded. I also hope that Vettori comes back from his injury soon. He is virtually the backbone of this growing New Zealand team.

Wouldn't mind if the Kiwis won this match as it would make the series interesting :).

i dont like series going into deciders i get really pissed when they lose closely in a decider i would rather get smashed then lose by 1 point/run

TEAMS OUT ONTO THE ARENA

Both Australian openers and the Kiwi team have made their way out onto the ground in this second clash at Westpac stadium. All now watch as Bond prepares to deliver the first ball of the game...

RELIEF COMES AFTER A BLISTERING START

Australia has lost its first wicket after a cracking start from both openers. Simon Katich is looking especially good after being heavily critisised during the week for his slow style of batting. Gilchrist was caught trying to loft a pitched up delivery from Bond over the top of mid wicket in a typical Gilly slog. A huge score is on the cards with the currently run rate like this...

R.Ponting 0(0)*
S.Katich 27(23)*
A.Gilchrist 26(25)
Aus: 1/54 (8)
RR: 6.75
258 balls remaining
9 wickets in hand

S.Bond 1/29 (4)
C.Martin 0/25 (4)

KATICH KNOCKED OVER

Simon Katich's quickfire innings has ended soon after Gilchrist's after he was bowled for 31. Katich tried to cover drive a ball that was too close to off stump. So it was no surprise that when the ball nipped in a fraction it took off stumop with it. With the openining partnership completely gone the Kiwis will be looking to slow the run rate and try to claim another wicket...

D.Martyn 0(0)*
R.Ponting 6(6)*
S.Katich 31(35)
Aus: 2/64 (11)
RR: 5.81
234 balls remaining
8 wickets in hand

S.Bond 1/31 (5)
C.Martin 1/33 (6)

MARTYN GONE AFTER GOOD COMEBACK

The Australians have lost their third wicket after a promising partnership between Ponting and Martyn. The pair where batting well and looked dangerous until Martyn misstimed a drive and looped a catch to Patel at mid off. Australia are still in a good position and have a reasonable run rate for the loss of 3 wickets...

A.Symonds 1(1)*
R.Ponting 39(42)*
D.Martyn 30(41)
Aus: 3/130 (24)
RR: 5.41
156 balls remaining
7 wickets remaining

S.Bond 2/32 (6)
C.Martin 1/45 (10)
J.Patel 0/38 (6)
J.Oram 0/14 (2)

Australia's Manhattan graph, costly overs are appearing all to frequently at the moment for the Kiwis. The wicket of Martyn should slow it down for the moment, but with Andrew Symonds and Ricky Ponting at the crease things might get a whole lot worse in the next 10-15 overs if another wicket isn't captured...

Aussies still the favs to win this one! My bets are on Symo to get a quick 70 or 80 and Australia cantering to a win!

Hopefully the Aussies will get over 250, it looks like that at the moment. Ponting to get a half-century and so will Symonds is what I say.
