I'm not sure if this should continue be discussed in this thread or should move away to its own thread, but one of the news channels in India, Times Now, has ignited controversy farther by having an exclusive interview with Shahid Afridi.

While I haven't watched the interview myself, Afridi has been quoted as saying, "You cannot win without ball tampering." and that "it should be allowed to a certain degree by the ICC"; both statements have left me... speechless. :P

While someone else bought up the subject I have a question about ball tampering. Looking at the BBC site it seems Inzamam has "been charged with changing the condition of the ball and his hearing will be heard on Friday." Does that mean they think he did or that as a captain he is responable for not making sure his players didn't do it?

I'm not saying he did it before someone misunderstands, I just want to know why he's been charged/

I hope this ugly issue is sorted out in the best possible way.

I feel that Inzy and his side has done the right thing by protesting.
There is more to a sport than just the result . There is a lot of national pride involved and that was surely being tainted by Mr.Hair and Co.
The issue has been handled horribly by the umpires.
What is being said that the players were ready to play after a chat with the referee Mike Proctor.
Isn`t the referee supposed to be the authority who supervises the umpires ?
If so, why did Mr.Hair and Billy Doctrove not come out back again.

I don`t know how the 25 cameras could not capture it, if it did happen??
Every action is monitored by the TV cameras , so why was this not recorded if the ball was tampered with ?
And why would a team with a 330 run lead try to tamper with the ball ?

I remember a similar incident which occured during the India-SA series in 2001 and know how it feels to be suporting the side which has been accused.
Mike Deness suspended/fined 6 players for excessive apealing and accused Sachin Tendulkar of ball tampering !!!!
Tendulkar has one of the cleanest disciplinary records in cricket and he was accused of ball tampering when he was just cleaning a dirty seam .
The team rallied around and demanded the referee to be replaced and played an unofficial 3rd test.
What was interesting as well was that Shaun Pollock was let scott-free for some really long aggressive appeals in the same game.

The match referee`s role has been questioned over the years and Mr.Proctor has a lot of explanation to do.
There is a lot of national and individual pride involved here.

The captain is charged as the representative of the team as a whole.

While hunting for this article (unsuccessfully) on Times Now, I found this. Although it was 5 hours ago and probably nothing more than speculation. It relates to the ODI series and Pakistan's involvement.

I will really lose respect for Pakistan if they pull out of this series. If they make us suffer for something that as between themselves and the Umpires and has nothing to with us, then they really are acting silly.

There's bound to be a lot of rumours flying around. I'd wait until we hear something concrete like the ICC statement.
Well there was a video of the ICC chief annoucning that Ranjan Madugalle will oversee the two allegations against Inzamam('s team)--tampering with the ball and bringing hte game into disrepute.

just heard that confirmed on Talksport

Do you have a link to that?
Ironically (or not), none of this has populated the web yet. Rest assured that my TV won't go off for a few hours. It also seems that Times Now is the only channel to have picked up on this Afridi thing.

The ICC seems to be backing the umpires and have also charged Inzy of disrepute as I expected.
I never expect the ICC to do anything different as they are the ones who select the so called `ELITE PANEL`of umpires.

I did not see any real extra movement from the ball. And it was a 53 over old ball as well.
The seam could have also been raised by factors other than `tampering` .

I`d like Darrel Hair to give a clarification on his decision.
Did he actually see a player tamper the ball as there is not video evidence of that?

Something I meant to mention before but forgot about in relation to how widespread ball tampering is in cricket was to point out that Surrey were fined for it last season and I have a feeling some other counties were too.
