Pakistan Tour of Australia 2009/10

Well obviously you have not been looking at his performances as he has just two ducks (including the one yesterday).

And he has been scoring lower than Suresh Raina in almost all his matches:laugh

Except Suresh Raina has never played a test match and has only played ODIs and T20Is. Hughes has played only tests. He has never played an ODI or a T20I. Nice comparison...

Didn't watch the last test but Hughes was looking mighty good in the Big Bash.

Totally different formats but form is form...

What my six sense was saying,it happened yesterday. What my six sense is saying now is that Pakistan will post more then 300 here, with Yousaf or Umar going to score a ton.

The shot Hughes played to get out was EXACTLY the same shot he used in his last innings in the Ashes.

He plays that shot so well in domestic level but it's as if he's waiting for the short ball every delivery. And takes the back leg behind the leg stump. Hence getting out of position.

As far as Ponting, if he doesn't make a big one this match, he should ...... erm ...... go to a corner and think about what he's done :facepalm

The trouble with Marcus is that he's only played a couple of great innings, and that's what inflates his average a bit. Most of the time he's heading back to the pavilion cheaply, especially in the 2nd innings where most of the Aussie batting collapses have been occurring. The main advantage I saw with Marcus at #6 instead of Symonds was going to be consistency, but he's being very Symonds like in that he either gets out early or he makes a big score.

While his average last year is very comparable with Ponting and Hussey sure, I think his overall record (First class etc) is much less comparable and I don't think he's the quality of player that those 2 are WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING WELL. Ie. 100% form Ponting/Hussey >>> 100% form North.

Totally agree especially the replacing Symonds for more consistency. We actually would have been better of with Symonds in these collapses. I checked a few of our collapses in the past 2 years and Symonds was scoring 60s and preventing a collapse like today although it still ended up being a collapse because of the lack of support.

And really who else can we bash on? Ponting is our captain and agruably our greatest batter since Bradman, are we really going to suddenly drop him? Hussey has been bashed on a hell of a lot more than North.

Hard to blame him though, the selectors drop him for the short ball weakness so of course hes going to be nervous about that ball and trying to prove the selectors wrong.

agree with Tum Tum, that Lords dismissal was woeful- it was a half volley and he was stuck on the back foot and played a terrible shot. Yesterday his feet moved into position after he nicked it, pretty obvious sign of technique fault. Not the sort of thing he should be fixing at test level. A guy like Ferguson on the other hand is a lot more sound in his technique, so is Khwaja, for a young player.

Ferguson? Oh please he doesn't even have a technique. Just plays the ball like I do at junior level. :laugh

Ponting out of order: Lawson - Australia - Fox Sports
Geoff Lawson reckons Ponting should be at #5 - I agree totally. He would like Hughes, Katich, Watson at #3, Clarke, then Ponting at #5.

I mostly agree, but I'd play Clarke at #3, keep Hussey at #4, and get Watson down at #6. Reason? Watson is consistent, which is our #6s problem right now, he's probably the least likely of the guys to score a century (in normal form), he can score fast enough to bat with the tail at the end, plus it would help his bowling.

Thing is I think Katich, Watson and Clarke are all better #3s right now than Ponting. A drop to #5 might make him bat a bit more responsibly. It'll never happen, but we can dream...:p

Problem with Watson at 6 is the fact he likes the new ball and is a bit suspect against the spinners. Hence why his record at 6 is so poor. It's also a gamble in moving him there with the form hes showing at the top of the order. If we move him, he goes crap then we try and salvage it by moving him back up but now hes lost his mojo then we have stuffed up Watson. In theory he would be perfect for the number 6 spot but its a risk with his form.

Khawaja could be the man we need at 6, hes consistently making runs and can bat anywhere. Steven Smith could be another, hes saved NSW a number of times this season when they were in trouble and his bowling is bonus.

Well I was thinking Watson could stay opening and Katich could move down as Watson-Hughes could be a long term combo, but Katich has looked even worse against the spinners than Watson for me.

Ponting ain't much better either :p Strange in regards to Katich though, when he entered the team he was probably our best player of spin. He doesn't seem to use his feet as much these days.
