I wouldn't say he is overly negative, more pessimistic. Thing is, although it may not apply on a pitch like this, in the modern era, I don't think a lead of 200 (the follow on) is actually big enough. Batsman are scoring more runs than ever before, pitches last longer than ever before, yet it hasn't resulted in that rule changing.
If we had gotten them out and had the chance to follow on, but didn't, I don't see it as a bad thing, especially with the time left in the game. Batting last is an unknown in many aspects, but why give your opponents a sniff? Being ruthless is what made the Aussies the best side of the 90s and early 2000's. You can be ruthless and cautious.
Good stuff by England in the second half off today. Prior, Swann and Broad took whatever chance Pakistan had and shot it to pieces. Impressed with Prior today, albeit his getting to the ton was slow, I think we could allow him to do it and enable him a well deserved 3rd Test ton. It's not like this batting line up will have any chance anyway.
