This is footballing perfection. It beats FIFA in every aspect. The shooting, the passing, the players faces, the kits (those that are licensed that is), the dribbling, the scoring, the....everything. FIFA just comes nowhere near this game in any field whatsoever. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is the greatest football game on the market. That is the defining review I give it, and it doesn't do this piece of video mastery justice.

All you FIFA fanboys who fail to admit this game is the pinnacle of football video gaming can go and chew on a brick, as there is just no hope in your blinded perceptions of what a football game should be.

i CANT BLOODY WAIT!!!!
Ill have it by nxt week. Pro has always been better than FIFA lets not kid ourselves :P

Well, I must agree that this is by far the best football simulation ever made. The difference to the demo is staggering, and the way this plays makes me want to drool.

I don't even know why I'm on here talking about it, I should be playing!

How's the Master League? And does this review apply to the PC as far as you know? What's the sound like, have they improved it over last year? How much better than PES 6 is it?

Can you stop asking questions? :p

1) No idea about the Master League.
2) Matt got it on the PS3, not the PC.
3) New commentators, makes the game sound a lot better. Even if it is Mark Lawrenson.
4) Ga-zillion.

1)Dunno, i've only been playing friendlies and two player so far.
2)I have PS3 version but as far as I know, it should be similar.
3)The commentary is boss. The ambience is boss. The sound effects are boss. The music is boss.
4)PES6 is appalling in comparison. Such is the genius of this game.

Oh and btw Briggs, the intro music is 'Thank You Very Much' by the Kaiser Chiefs so you were right. ;)

So to sum up, it's boss. Ok, thanks!! I'll be picking it up shortly for ?17.99.

My review by JJ Simpson

I bought PES 2008 at midday. By about 4, it was back in the shop. This is why:

Offline Play

PES is a truly marvellous game, when it is offline. My first match was between the two Premiership licensed teams, Newcastle vs Tottenham. I noticed how TeamVision works, I was purposefully playing long balls from the defence to Michael Owen and the AI recognised this, so they brought taller defenders into the game and headed everything away.

I loved the new features, diving and skills. The diving can be used in the box, when a player fouls and you either get the penalty/free kick or you are given a yellow card. The new skills are also kick-ass. Play as Ronaldinho and you are more likely to nutmeg/step-over/own the opposition. But, if you are someone like Gary Neville attempting this skills, you are going to be flat on your face within seconds.

So, as Matt quite righly said:

Online Play

It isn't nowhere near the actual offline game. The lag is incredible, I was beaten 6-0 in my first match, because I could see the ball at my feet in one moment and in the next, it was in the back of my net. KONAMI have recognised this problem with slowdown and they have said that they are working to fix it.

Another problem with online play are the servers. I was logged out of the lobby quite often, due to corrupt data.

To top it off...

This corrupt data turned everything to poop. I couldn't play any matches, online or offline. My PS3 began to slowly break down and cause the game to run so slow. I took the game back and now I am PES-less. :crying

Overall, I would say FIFA were beaten this year by Pro Evolution Soccer. But, I am without a copy. Before you ask, I don't want to get another copy because I ain't sure whether it is my PS3 or the game was faulty. For now, I will wait till 16th November to buy myself SD vs RAW 2008 for my £33.

Ratings

Graphics - 8/10 (Looks really smooth)
Sound - 9/10 (Great new commentators)
Gameplay - 10/10 (TeamVision rocked my world!)
Online - 3/10 (Corrupted my game. Bitch.)

Overall - 8/10 (Great game, shame I couldn't try more)

Personal opinions?

PES Fanboys are the more hardcore fanboys, you get three types of footy gaming fans:

FIFA Fanboys.
PES Fanboys.
People who like both and give both a go and like both for different reasons.

On a brighter note, cant wait to get mine, Royal Mail have screwed me over so I havn't got it like I should have hopefully tommorow if not I'm going out to buy it!

Mwahaha good old PS3 online hehehe, won't be having such a big problem that I'll have to return it on the 360!

Although I know lag is on all formats of the game atm...
