Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

Thanks, I refrained from mentioning FIFA in that post, but as you asked me for a comparison then i'll answer :).

For PC, PES is still miles ahead in terms of gameplay and graphics, it's by far the better game.
For consoles, I would say the same thing, just replacing "PC" with "consoles" and "PES" for "FIFA" ;).

I think you sum it up fairly well there.

The only points I disagree with in the review are the AI (I'm honestly bottom of the league on ML, W1D3L6 on Top Player), the shooting, and the claim you can breeze past any player.

You seem to think the randomness of the shooting is a bad thing - well at least its not like PES of old where you could catch the ball perfectly from anywhere.

As for the AI, playing BAL on Vertical camera shows how much it has improved. I thought as a seasoned PES player you'd experiment with the tactics more, they work really well for getting players to run off the ball.

The going past the player with ease has gone. I played the demo solidly for 2 weeks, and the full game for about 3 hours today, and you can't pick the ball up with any player and run round them as you could in 2008, unless you stick it on Regular or below. Sure, you can still get past players, and outstrip them if you do get past, but thats football.

Still, at least you've given it a go, cant fault you on that. Right, time to sprint off to the football, need a pre-match pint.

EDIT: Oh, scrap the pint, I thought it was 13:40, better get my skates on

Yeah the Top player is really hard, i lost to West Brom and they had 9 men, doing better now though, half way through the season and 8th with chelsea.

I can barely dribble past one player, its almost impossible now so you have to pass and move, and look for more intricate play.

The chants really are terrible, what were they thinking, it just annoys me now so i turned them off. :p

I'm having a go at importing my own chants in there now. I do love the custom soundtrack feature though; more PS3 games should have it.

Just discovered something new on master league. Add players you want to buy to your list, then when transfer period comes around you get a full report telling you what the chances are of buying the player, and him agreeing terms with you, as well as details about his ability, pretty cool as i wasn't expecting it.

Has anyone else had the crash problem with Become A Legend? I am top goal scorer in the league after breaking into Middlesborough's first team. All was well until I reached week 18 and now the game crashes after I load the save game. Apparently this is a common problem and a patch is being made.

I played the demo on Xbox 360 and I'm still not impressed. I drew 1-1 as Man Utd against Barcelona (on Top Player) and it is as robotic, unflowing and unprofessional as it was the last time I played it. I'm going to rent the PS3 version for a week or so, but this simply isn't a very good game and not worthy of my money.

If it's not worth your money then how come you're gonna rent it? You still have to pay for renting it you know.

At least it is only going to be about ?3 for a week or so and not ?30.

Matt, let him rent the game, play it for a few minutes, decided it's crap and lacking any flow even though that's what the entire PES series has been famed for.

Don't be like that. Everyone has their own opinions. You might like it. I, however, think it is terrible.

I find it hard to believe people questioning the flow of the game. By all means criticize the graphics, the kits, the shoddy teams names, the dodgy onlines and the old school animations but to question the flow just reaks of a sense of wanting to find faults with the game. It flows perfectly and it's a terrific football game. Easily the best available on the market this year in my books.

evertonfan added 0 Minutes and 55 Seconds later...

Absolutely fair enough Lee. I respect that completely, I just disagree with the flow comments. Although I am aware that you may well have a different grasp on what a flowing football game is.
