South Africa in England

haha funny. why they change the camera from the streaker always ...:D

It is policy. Don't give attention seeking idiots what they want. The crowd hasn't done Headingley any favours for hosting future Tests.

Yeah!!! We in the West Indies, have our issues with sight Screens, and a lot was said in here about it during the recent tour, but fans naked or half naked running on the field is just as distracting, I wonder if it is a ploy and if it is too distract which side.

The only thing that England can do is now to evade an innings defeat. Or they can hope on the weather. Nine wickets to go for South Africa.

This is Vaughan's 50th Test as captain, and the 1st innings deficit of 319 is only the joint sixth highest under his captaincy. In his 50 Tests as captain, England have trailed by over 100 runs on 1st innings on no less than 13 occaisions. England have had a 1st innings lead over over 100 runs on 18 occaisions under Vaughan

100+ 1st innings leads : P18 W15 D3 L0
100+ 1st innings deficits : P13 W1 D5 L7

England 1st innings deficits under Vaughan (Top 10)

1. 509 vs South Africa (Lords 2003) : England 173 & 417, South Africa 682 - South Africa won by an innings & 92 runs.

2. 466 vs West Indies (Antigua 03/04) : West Indies 751/5d, England 285 & 422-5 - Match Drawn.

3. 418 vs Sri Lanka (Galle 07/08) : Sri Lanka 499/8d, England 81 & 251/6. Match Drawn.

4. 363 vs Sri Lanka (Colombo 03/04) : England 265 & 148, Sri Lanka 628/8d. Sri Lanka won by an innings & 215 runs.

5. 348 vs Pakistan (Lahore 05/06) : England 288 & 248, Pakistan 636/8d. Pakistan won by an innings & 100 runs.

6= 319 vs India (The Oval 2007) : India 664 & 180/6d, England 345 & 369/6. Match Drawn.

6= 319 vs South Africa (Headingley 2008) England 203 & 327, South Africa 522 & 9/0. South Africa won by 10 wickets

8. 283 vs India (Trent Bridge 2007) : England 198 & 355, India 481 & 73/3. India won by 7 wickets.

9. 278 vs South Africa (Cape Town 04/05) : South Africa 441 & 222/8d, England 163 & 304. South Africa won by 196 runs

10. 197 vs Sri Lanka (Colombo 07/08) : England 351 & 250/3, Sri Lanka 548/9d. Match Drawn.

It's no wonder Vaughan has never beaten Sri Lanka, India or Pakistan in a Test match, he tends to concede big leads on 1st innings to them!

Hangs around lol. It's a travesty if there's a single cloud in the sky when England bat. SA have had nothing but sunshine.

We need a huge partenership to garner any hopes of saving thsi match but neither opener looks solid enough and if Vaughan wasn't such a good captain, he would have been out of the team long ago.

Don't see England saving this.

I hear you there! England bat and there's nothing but overcast. As soon as SA come out to bat, the sun puts in an appearance!

yes blame mother nature for all England's misfortunes, obviously have nothing to do with them just being outplayed in every session. Very good point of view. We batted for 2 days, most of yesterday was overcast but we batted through it. England needs to be resilient, the way SA has been since the 2nd Inns at Lord's. If they cant be resilient and end up losing the game then maybe Sa's bowlers just used the pitch better than they did at Lord's. England's woes have less to do with the weather (i mean seriously, its their home turf they would have played at Headingly 100000x more than us) but more about their wack selection and ineffective bowling attack.

I'd like you to point out where he attributed the weather to Engand's shoddy performance.

Exactly where i quoted in my post....what else could he have implied when saying SA always bat when the sun is out and its easy to bat and overcast when England is batting?

As in Sa have had luck with regards to the weather but ask any England fan here and we'll point out our own faults rather than blame external influences. If only others could do that...

Well im first in line pointing out when SA's playing crap, i.e Kallis needs to go, no use fannying about and blaming everything else than what we do on the pitch. Unless the pitch is crumbling up and Harris is spinning the ball around batsmen's legs or the ball swings 3 feet through the air I dont ever think one can put any blame on conditions and its a bit annoying to hear some people on this forum immediately taking the easy way out instead of realising their team wasnt up to it these 3 days.

^ You can't be serious :/ That's sarcastic right?

This is pretty one sided. Well done to SA. Finally they're showing how good they are.

England's bowling was carried by Sidebottom. Now you can clearly see that Broad is a weak link. He must average over 50 with the ball now. He needs replacing. Vaughn fails again, I feel his time is up so long as you have another number 3 in the country knocking on the door.

Name one person who's done that

It is sad that guys come in here and makes silly, childish excuses and look to blame everything other than poor judgment and bad decisions on the part of ECB to bring Flintoff in, drop Collingwood and when it does not YET yield results blame the weather for England woes. For 2 sessions on day 2, Price and AB batted in overcast conditions, played was stopped for an hour because of rain, they were up too all the was thrown at them, they labored, scored slowly, but most importantly they survived, they came out on day 3, cloud cover the ball was moving around, Anderson had them BOTH playing and missing, in that sapce of time, more than they did on all of day 2, England had success and SA persisted with valuable partnerships, the one between AB and Harris of 84 was the second highest, they showed that they had the testicular fortitude to face what England had to offer thus far, with two superb centuries and guys come in here and talk about the weather, how pathetic.

You've made yourself look a real fool. You've quoted one of my posts but haven't actually read it properly. I clearly stated that we'd point out our own faults rather than blame external influences.

Also, MB never claimed that the weather is the reason for SA's dominance when it clearly isn't. We have been poor and it was just an observation that Sa have batted in sunshine and it would be unfortunate from England's point of view if it was cloudy again.

Try again.

Owais Shah

Been a superb player in ODIs for us, got 80 odd vs India before getting cramp in his hand. Far better player than Vaughan is. Strauss is a pretty good captain too, his record is quite good too, something like 3 wins out of 5.
