Sri Lanka in England/Netherlands

i just feel murali provides more problems to batsman than warne does, even though warne got 40 odd wickets in the ashes last year, murali still looks more dangerous

OMG...what just have happened? Murli destroyed England! there is no messing around with him.

I'll agree with that! I cringe every time Murali bowls! With Warney I always felt that once a batsman got settled against him he was comfortable, Pietersen at the Oval was a prime example of this, he made Warne look like Gilo once he got three figures. Murali can still trouble a batsmen even if he is on 300!

I might get moaned at for this, but I thought that Blackwell did a tidy job with the ball in India, so he should get another go, heck maybe even open with him as a pitch hitter! :D

I fancy England to win this one day series as long as Pietersen, Flintoff and Tresco fire. I realy hope we do win the series, it's great to watch England when they perfrom well in ODI's. Sadly though, it doesn't happen too often. :crying

Jones is England's wicket-keeper for me, he just always produces a good innings when his place is severely under threat.

Firstly, Freddie's poor form with the bat has been because of captaincy I think, he concentrated on building a captain's knock rather than bullying the opposition as he usually does.

Flintoff averaged 52.80 with a strike rate of 49.81 in India whilst being captain. Nothing to do with the captaincy, I just think he lacks time out in the middle of late. In the lead up to this series he played one C&G Trophy match in which he didn't bat, hardly great preparation. Strauss, Trescothick, Jones, Collingwood, Pietersen and Cook all had good batting time before coming into this series, and with the exception of Jones, all looked like making runs. It's Flintoff's bowling that doesn't seem to have had quite the same edge to it since he's been captain, with the exception of the third test v India and the first innings in this match.

I'd say his place has been under threat in a lot of peoples eyes for a while, yet he only has three test fifties to his name in the last 14 tests.

Only trouble with that is that Blackwell is injured and not likely to return to action until late August early september time.

You won't see any cockiness from this fan. This series will be a huge task for our boys. I'm already saving up so I can buy this series from DISHNetwork. $180 for this series where I paid $100 for last years  Even the Indo-Pak series was $150.

Wow... Sri Lanka beat England.. Sri Lanka really playing some inspired cricket this series and well deserved win for them.

Well on a personal point of view, I would like England to maintain the win-less run because the third ranked team India is only one point behind them.

If i remeber right wasnt Old Trafford prepared to suit the Aussies aswell last year, English groundsmen should prepare pitches for England and not the visiting team !!!!
:mad
All this pitch bashing is kinda funny, given that fans of teams touring India always seem to complain about India preparing tailor-made pitches.

Good job to the Lankans! Great to see an Asian team perform well in England. England's lack of bench strength is rearing its face again.

Not including Trent Bridge test.

His last 7 scores.
He always produces a good innings when under threat?

Like he did at Trent Bridge?

He's not good enough simple as.

Where was the reverse swing? How could fintoff's bowling be so different to how it was in the ashes? They were swinging it 15 overs in last time, yet this time never. Maybe it is just something that turns up every 100th full moon. Delightful viewing as an aussie fan - how we ever lost to these hacks i don't know :D Is it true that Jones is out of the pakistan series as well?

To be honest, I think it's got more to do with the absence of the 'ruthless' attitude- existent in Vaughan- of the leader. The bench, although quite inexperienced, is potent enough to overcome the Sri Lankan side, but they just haven't been playing to their strengths enough and lack the confidence to smother an opponent.
Anyway, a disappointing loss, but full credit to the Sri Lankans; it was a deserved victory after playing with extreme courage, and England just didn't take the vital opportunities all throughout the series and failed to really grab the initiative I guess.
GoJones' time is nearly up unless he converts his next few opportunities; I don't have anything against him or anything, but he has to post a decent performance soon, as his competition in Read looks to be a much more deserved candidate at present.
