Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand

Well 3rd highest scorer in the 1st inns and highest scorer in the 2nd inns so did good compared to the rest of the guys. But yea these two openers don't really look like your openers for the future.

I think this is the fastest I have seen Malinga throw, causing some real trouble.

Throw? U shld chose ur words carefully. His action is perfectly legal. Its impossible for him to throw with that slinging action.

Sling then. I am aware his action is legal, but I don't believe it is within the spirit of the game.

well after strugling in his first few overs Malinga really found the line and length in his second spell, his bouncers really did a number on the NZ batsman and he got the key wicket of Fleming. early wickets tomorow and Sri Lanka will have a big advantage. :hpraise :hpraise :hpraise for Sangakkara reall class, good job by Silva to get his half century, disapointed in Mahela for his scores in this series so far especially after the form the has been in.

I hope McCullum comes out and plays his game. Aggressive. He has to do it.

Greta innign by Sangakarra.. when i looked newzealnd were like 2 out for 60 odd i think so they should be in a strong position for tomorrow

NIce one. Ironic that if someone unique comes into the games it raises eyebrows coz people just cant handle the bowling. He was def mkn everyone jump arnd bowling faster than bond even

yeah great innings by Sangakkara. Especially with batsmen from both teams struggling he just showed that there are no deamons on the pitch u just need good judgement outside the offstump in leaving and playing the bad balls away. One of the great hundreds. He's a highly underrated layer to be honest.

Also Chris martins opening spell was a beauty. evn bond was strugglin for awhile but martin was outstanding with his line and length.

Nicely poised match

Lol, yeah I know ;) Just the whole run-out thing. Malinga is a good bowler. I have no problems with his action. Makes the game interesting. That's the best I have seen him bowl. Seems like a quick and bouncyish wicket. I actually see a lot of simularities to the pitch at the Waca and how it's performing at the moment. Infact the two games are reasonably simular.

Astle looked good vs Murili too and now we have lost Fleming, our best player of spin. This game could be over by the fourth day too.

Couldn't agree with you more, thats not cricket, and if its cricket why dont they teach it to school kids? its basically a baseball throw

quite a few bowlers have that action. Jeff thompson had a slingy action and so does fidel edwards frm the windies. Malinga is more lower i thnk than the others but its within the rules and its raw. He's developed it from playin beach cricket with tennis balls so he had to ball like dat to get the tennis ball to bounce on sand!! He's never played cricket for school i thnk so he was just a raw talent just picked up.

I dnt thnk u can teach dat kind of action to kids ev if they wnted to coz its unconventional. People dnt teach unconventional thngs. Bradmen pietersan. I dnt thnk coaches wld tell kids to play some of the shots pietarsan plays or other players for that matter. Special players are unique and they bring their own to the game

just my 2 cents.

Shaun Tait basically has the same action, it's good having a different type of bowler and as mentioned Thompson one of the legends of Australian cricket had the same action.

no they dont, they come back then let go of the ball, thats good but round arm is a bit extreme, i know its legal i just dont think it should be allowed cuz you lose site of the ball more, the ball is just being let go of right at the toe of the side screen and sometimes it will get lost in the umpires clothes, and has he knocked the stumps down yet with his arm?

Yea true, Tait and Thompson is much more round arm compared to Malinga.
Oh well his action is legit so any advantage he gets from that good on him, milk it for all it's worth I say cause these bowlers don't come up everyday which makes him hard to play.

I remember the commentators saying the last time Malinga toured New Zealand the umpires had to take their ties off cuz the batsmen couldn'y pick up the ball, so thats what i mena when i say he should have to tidy up his action

you are quite right, Daryl Hair was wearing a red tie that day, and stephen fleming complained he could not see the ball being released. A TV replay freezed the point of release, and sure enough the ball was coming right out of the dark red tie. So Mr Hair removed his tie for the remainder of the day.

As for Malinga changing his action, i disagree. His action is legal, he has modified it slightly (it was much lower before) and it has improved his pace. I applaude players who bring something slightly different to the game, it keeps it exciting.

Other people who bring difference to the game are murali, nel, pietersen, panesar, Warne, Gayle, and recently, McCullum.

I like how their personality sometimes overtakes the days play. I do not always agree with the antics, but it brings an enrichment to the game.

So i say bravo to the Malinga's of this world who enrich our cricket.

spot the texter

i am sooo hoping that Sinclair gets a good score here. But i am that concerned i didnt even put him in my side :(

oh me of little faith

Also i am afraid it is time for Astle to go, i think they need to make room for the young talent coming through, i think age has finally caught up with him, he seems to struggle to see the ball and react (and no its been more bowlers than Malinga recently)

I think Cumming has shown enough for my mind to keep him alongside Papps who just returned after injury to score a good domestic 100 in his comeback game. NZ cricket have said they chose Cumming and How over the injured Papps, indicating that he may have been the first choice.

so the new NZ lineup might be

Cumming
Papps
Sinclair
Fleming
Styris
Oram
Vettori
McCullum
Mills
Bond
Martin

for next years tests. I believe Astle and Fleming will soon retire (Astle's will be forced) making way for Taylor to enter the middle order and Vettori to take over the captaincy.

On the Sri Lankans, i have been more and more impressed with Malinga, he is consistently bowling faster than Bond, and really givng our batsmen a work over. What about that blow Sinclair took on the arm? How tough is Sinclair! Bet he has an armguard today!

Well this is turning into a fascinating match which obviously might not go the distance unless NZ can dig in today and work like they havent for quite some time.

My feeling is Murali and Malinga will be just too much for us to handle and this series might head for a draw.

:cheers
