You said I was knocked out anyway! I didn't realise the group games were still going on!

Nope, only one team progresses to the next round from each group, hence why the Quarter Finals are next, and seen as the Rabbitohs have an unassailable lead at the moment (to you anyway) you will only be able to qualify as a high points runner up if an inactive team somehow manages to qualify

I assumed that as the Shield was starting, it meant the group stages were over.

I know, I wasnt even going to bother this week, my last few pulls have seen BT ratings less than 100, but after looking through the sledging boards on Battrick, I saw a couple of good 0 ITS pulls so chanced my look and it came off!
