Trans-Tasman Trophy (NZ in Australia), December 2011/12

Dean Brownlie seems to be a bit of an indictment on the WACA. Identified as an u-17 and u-19, he didn't progress any further and rather sensibly was seeking other opportunities by the age of 25. I know NZ might not set the greatest standards for international selection but he's definitely a quality first class batsman. While WA did have way too many of those up to about 2008, their failure to look five years ahead is as evident now in their own ranks as it appears to be in Brownlie.

Christian left NSW for SA, so that pretty much rules him out in my opinion.

Out of the 3 Kiwis I picked in my fantasy team, I wish I only had 1. Shocking performance.

Might not be a long innings for Warner with the fall of Vettori. Would've been awesome all round if Pattinson took that catch off Warner. Glenn McGrath 2.0

I think we should just have a round of fast bowlers on debut because lately that is when they bowl their best.

Ok, here's my serious NZ team (unlike the one I posted before) that I'd pick for Hobart, if I could pick any NZer's in the world to play:

1. T McIntosh - Bat 29 (Knows how to occupy the crease like an opener's meant to)
2. L Vincent - Bat 40 (Great record against Australia)
3. H Marshall - Bat 45 (Great record against Australia)
4. D Flynn - Bat 29 (Tbh I probably wouldn't pick him, but there's really no one else looking at the averages)
5. R Taylor - Bat 38 (Disastrous first test, but still has a decent record against Australia)
6. D Brownlie - 77* & 40*
7. D Vettori - Bat 29 & Bowl 36
8. B McCullum - Bat 27 (If he's not keeping I'm not picking him, he's not bigger than the game like he thinks he is)
9. A Adams (Best FC bowler in the country, screw the politics that are stopping him from playing)
10. T Southee - Bat 16 & Bowl 42
11. C Martin - Bat 1 & Bowl 77 (Terrible record against Australia, but was our best pace bowler in the first test)

Our bowling still looks very weak, but we're not in any state to weaken our batting after the first test batting performance.

Dropped:

M Guptill - Bat 21 - Hasn't looked good at all against the new ball.
K Williamson - Bat 10 - Hasn't really looked good.
J Ryder - Bat 19 - Yet to pass 50 in six innings against Australia.
R Young - Bat 2 - Giving the gloves back to McCullum.
D Bracewell - Bat 1 & Bowl 104 - Pretty harsh because he bowled well, but I'd take Adams in a heartbeat ahead of him.

The averages are their averages against Australia, because that's the true test of how good they are.

They should all claim their souvenir stumps now, not like the Kiwis are going to hit them anyway.

I'd be keeping Bracewell over Southee too, he did well against Aus A (73*, 13* and 4/87) and his figures should have been a lot better this game.

Dan Christian averages 10 this year...

He what? He's averaging about 60 in the Shield, shame his bowling is averaging about 50 though...

I can see the need for an AR without Watson, but I can't see him getting a go in the XI. Warner and Khawaja will get another shot, none of the others are in danger and he certainly wouldn't play as a bowler. And if there's an injury to a bowler I don't think you want Christian coming in and batting at #8.

This. If you wanted a 6 then McDonald would have been a much better option. Better in both departments, just not in quite the same form atm. Faulkner is another and he's a leftie, if he had a 100 next to his name his case would be much better. I just don't like picking a guy averaging 30 in FC cricket on the back of half a season of performing.

Sadly Hughes has to go, even ignoring the shot he got out with, the one before where he was dropped was a mirror image of how he has been dismissed in the majority of his innings lately. He needs to sort that issue out before coming back in. Much better from Warner, gave us a taste of what he can do, just a shame the Kiwis didn't give him enough runs.

Southee overall was better than Bracewell, just that Bracewell had some real good spells mixed in with a whole sessions of nothingness

I wondered what happened to L Vincent, seemed pretty annoying for the aussies.

Also, what is it with Hughes?

Changes for next match

In: Christian, Cummins
Out: Starc, Hughes

Had enough of Hughes. Read somewhere he's the worst performing opener in test cricket in the past 2 years. Averaged about 29 since his twin tons in SA.
