Trans-Tasman Trophy (NZ in Australia), December 2011/12

Flawless innings by Clarke :clap Halfway there.

I'm not sure if you're taking the piss or not (:p), but he was bowled off a no ball early on, and he was dropped twice on catches that should never be dropped at this level. Yes you do make your own luck though, so I'm not going to take anything away from him.

Bracewell's spell was probably worth two wickets, he was all over both Clarke and Haddin just before lunch. I actually thought he was faster than low 130s, but he was getting some great shape with the old ball.

We're still in this if we can finish things off quickly, with the lead only being 50 atm.

Let's see how the debutants nerve's are with the bat. Want another 50 at least.

Haha, yeah just taking the piss man.

Has there ever been an unluckier bowler than Bracewell? Admittedly his no ball wicket was his fault but 3 dropped catches now.

FSS, if Taylor, Ryder, and Young all don't get runs runs in the 2nd innings they'll be losing my respect for them. Firstly Taylor and Ryder get out taking terrible options in the 1st innings, and now they them along with Young all drop ****en catches that end up costing us about 100 runs.

Fielding's the area where we've traditionally always been one of the best countries in the world at, and the team today just threw all that out the window.

They only have themselves to blame for another well under par performance. I'm still hopefully we can somehow hold on for a draw, but we'll have to bat into day five for that to happen which is very unlikely, considering we didn't even bat 90 overs in the 1st innings.

Vettori, Brownlie, and Martin are really the only ones that should be holding their heads up atm.

To be fair, Australia did drop catches as well, although Clarke did make up for it. But then again, Starc didn't do crap do fix his mistake.

But I see where your coming from

Yeah, I guess that was just my impression. I certainly didn't watch every over he bowled, probably only 1/4 of them in fact :( but I just thought he didn't 'hit the good areas' enough. Cummins has all the tools: great height, speed and a wicked bouncer, but Siddle showed the way yesterday by making the batsman play while the other 2 didn't. That spell that Cummins bowled to Kallis was lauded as really working Kallis over, but Kallis left 75% of the 15-20 balls that Cummins gave him. It's just the few that did make him play were excellent.

I have seen the whole match and I can tell you he looked far better than Siddle and Johnson combined it wasn't funny. He was the only bowler bowling good areas, getting movement all the time and applying the pressure. And it's not like it's all hype, everyone was saying he was the leader of the attack even in the 1st innings when he only took 1 wicket. Clarke tried to bowl him as much as he can.

If Pattinson and Cummins both play at Hobart, you'll see the difference.

I'm at the point now where I really don't care that much whether we win or lose, this teams a joke. What was all that crap they were spewing before the game about how we aren't scared of the aussies and they are there for the taking?? Do the talking on the pitch, not off it please.

How about good old Baz McCullum, batting like a headless chicken. I had a bet with my mate after the tour match that McCullum wouldn't make one score over 50 the whole series, so far I'm looking good on that one. I really don't want to be so negative but you can only take so much of this.

There are positives, at least Brownlie batted like he was playing a test match he could be really useful in the years to come and despite the no balls (which you can't really do a lot about, I'm in the same situation myself) Bracewell sounded like he bowled quite well today. Can someone tell me how Southee bowled?? Didn't get to see a ball of day 3

Harris could miss entire summer | Cricket | Fox Sports

Guess Starc will stay in the side for his variation ahead of Pattinson.

Although i agree with the idea in premise that Howard is trying to perpetuate across the board for AUS quick bowlers, it makes no sense with Harris.

The man is AUS version of Bond, Flintoff, Akhtar with regards to his knee injury. Once he is fit he has to play and that's how AUS have to deal with him, until he himself feels he cant handle tests anymore.

Given he is 32 and doesn't have long more, i dont see the logic behind trying to make him perfect unless they can find him a new knee - which obviously wont happen.

He is the spearhead and the risk was already taken to make him the attack leader for tests given the lack of options post 2010 Ashes, when realistically most already knew his body couldn't take him.

Harris's body can only last T20s and ODIs properly, but AUS still need him to lead the attack and I seriously hope Howard's decision is revisited and Harris is playing the 1st test against India.

Yeah, it's just ****en annoying as a fan to continually see this team underperform, when they should be able to match it with this Australian team.

I disagree about the no balls. Like he bowled nine no balls in the tour match, which was one every two overs. He's only bowling low 130s so there's no reason why he should be overstepping the line so much. Why is he overstepping the line so much while Martin isn't? This is the stuff they should have looked at after the tour match, because it ended up costing us over 100 runs, but instead I assume they were all off playing golf and drinking, celebrating a draw with Australia A.

Southee was ????. He didn't get the ball to do anything with the old ball, and was relegated to first change with the new ball behind Martin and Bracewell. He just wasn't putting the ball in the right areas, for some reason he seemed to be really struggling.

If Taylor and Ryder don't score runs today I'd be moving Brownlie up to four next match. Brownlie doesn't look like he's ever going to score much runs with the tail, but he looks to be someone who should be able to occupy the crease and hold the innings together. He knows how to leave unlike McCullum, Taylor, and Ryder.
