Trans-Tasman Trophy (NZ in Australia), December 2011/12

I wouldn't mind having another look at Warner if he doesn't get a bat again. Same for Khawaja who was looking good before the run out. Looks like Ponting will stay on for the Indian series which really makes it tricky.

Plan to rest pair shows CA's new approach

So that is Marsh ruled out and Watson would be tight pressed to be able to bowl.

The injuries don't just affect the teams themselves, but for Australian cricket as a whole. We want to see the best players playing against each other, but it's not happening due to the wealth of injuries which is really disappointing. I really hope to see guys like Coulter-Nile, Mitchell Marsh, Putland, Mark Cameron, Dougie Bollinger recover pretty soon.

You can add Liam Davis to that list

Marsh brothers seem pretty injury prone. Mitch ain't going to be the next Kallis if he spends the next decade sitting on the sidelines.

Really? The only time I think fell away was just before tea on the 4th day, and that was because he was trying to bowl the inswinging yorkers and they went wrong, but I guess he was allowed to have that lapse and be a bit tired after leading the Aussie attack on debut at 18.

Yeah, I guess that was just my impression. I certainly didn't watch every over he bowled, probably only 1/4 of them in fact :( but I just thought he didn't 'hit the good areas' enough. Cummins has all the tools: great height, speed and a wicked bouncer, but Siddle showed the way yesterday by making the batsman play while the other 2 didn't. That spell that Cummins bowled to Kallis was lauded as really working Kallis over, but Kallis left 75% of the 15-20 balls that Cummins gave him. It's just the few that did make him play were excellent.

I guess all I'm saying is that taking 6fer will make people think he's basically a finished product, when I think he's got more improvement to make. That's what I meant by the pressure of expectation - fans will expect him to be awesome, but his pitch maps were less precise than Johnson or Siddle.

clarke got bowled on no-ball..

Funny (but very tiring...) listening to Tubby Taylor constantly complain about this every time the umpire checks the front foot, saying it's not cricket, ruins the game/moment blah blah. And yet the version of DRS he wants is one where there's no player referrals, but the umpire calls for DRS. To me those 2 stances are completely contradictory. So an umpire can check whether the ball might hit the stumps on an LBW, but he should never be allowed to check whether the bowler might have overstepped because that's not cricket?? Normally like Tubby (as compared to the mindless gibbering of Healy), but I wish he'd shut up about this.

Managed to catch some highlights earlier today. Pattison looks a real find - has the build and skills to become a great for Australia.

Starc, on the other hand, seems like to be Johnson 2.0 - too many wayward deliveries to pose a consistent threat. Early days, though.

Man, that aggravated the hell out of me. I wonder if he would have been applauding the decision had it not been reversed, while everyone else in the country is pissed about losing a wicket on an illegal delivery.

How you like them apples Vettori?

Well played Clarke, got lucky with that lapse of judgement but other than that he has looked very confident.

Reasonably happy with that session. 2/100. Could've been a lot worse if Clarke's catch was taken. Hopefully he sticks around a bit longer otherwise we'll probably fall away like the Kiwis did.

Third 100 in 4 Test matches, dam impressive stuff there! And he has brought up his milestones in glorious fashion.

Haddin must've found some patience from somewhere. Took plenty of time to get in with 2 off 35 balls, now moves on to 28 off 58.
