Trans-Tasman Trophy (NZ in Australia), December 2011/12

Been a delight to watch Ponting bat today. It has been a typical Ponting's inning, he has look to be positive from the very first ball he faced. It's good to see him among the runs. :)

There goes our last chance for a wicket today I reckon. Ball is doing nothing, and Brownlies on...

Anybody know how far away Marsh and Watson are? Is there any website which actually entails international and domestic injuries? I find it frustrating having no idea when players are going to be back or if they're even injured.

Marsh was training with the team but I think they are looking at the Indian series for him. I don't know about Watson, haven't heard much about him.

Ussie should be able to get at least a couple of fifties against this attack, they are so very ordinary, so it will be interesting to see who gets flicked for the Border/Gavaskar out of the young lefties on display.

Marsh may end up bench warming despite his excellent start to test cricket.:(

Brett Lee - appendicitis, available
Owing to washouts in grade cricket, Lee was asked by NSW to play in an u-19 game to prove his fitness and declined. The old curmudgeon will play when he's good and ready.
Pat Cummins - bruised foot, test
Probably has already recovered, but the medical staff are making an effort to not take chances, especially with teenagers. Will almost certainly play the 2nd Test.
Ben Cutting - back soreness, test
Has pulled up sore in the current Shield match and is being assessed. Unlucky bastard.
Adam Voges - groin, test
Hurt himself in a one dayer two weeks ago. Is training and hoping to make the Warriors' match on Monday.
Moises Henriques - side strain, test
Seems to be a mild tear and has already been recalled for NSW's next game.
Gary Putland - hamstring, 1 week
Nearing the end of his 4 week convalescence. Was really on song before his injury and it will be interesting to see if he's an instant selection or if SA ask him to play grade cricket first.
Shane Watson - hammy, 1-2 weeks
Was able to bat with heavy strapping, but one suspects they won't rush him back just to bat. Should be able to do full training in the weeks before Boxing Day. Still might not bowl too much though.
Mitchell Marsh - calf, 1-3 weeks
Pulled out of the attack in WA's last shield game, but was okay to bat. Not selected for the one dayer. No other word, so it might be okay.
Shaun Marsh - back, indefinite
Is doing constant physio work and is with the team in Brisbane; back pain itself is manageable, but the underlying problem is more important
Ryan Harris - hip injury, indefinite
At the moment he simply can't play consecutive days of cricket. He also has a degenerative knee condition.
Marcus North - back, indefinite
Attempted to return from a back injury against NSW but was limited and rested from the recent one dayer. Like with Marsh; one can feel like they've recovered from back spasms only to have another one.
Mitchell Johnson - foot surgery, season
I would bet real money that Johnson is fit in less than 5-6 months, except that he doesn't play IPL or county cricket. If he does end up doing either one of those, I would not be shocked. The guy is a mutant, like Wolverine.

I feel a bit the same way about Cummins, he did some great things in Jo'burg, but he's still pretty rough around the edges, and taking all those wickets on debut will just ramp up pressure and expectations on him that he probably doesn't need right now.

Really? The only time I think fell away was just before tea on the 4th day, and that was because he was trying to bowl the inswinging yorkers and they went wrong, but I guess he was allowed to have that lapse and be a bit tired after leading the Aussie attack on debut at 18.

Is it just me or is WA like a curse??
The Marsh Bros, Johnson, North, Voges... What's the coach doing to them?

I'm pretty sure Watson and Marsh would make a come-back to the tour of India, but Harris might miss the whole year.

The injuries don't just affect the teams themselves, but for Australian cricket as a whole. We want to see the best players playing against each other, but it's not happening due to the wealth of injuries which is really disappointing. I really hope to see guys like Coulter-Nile, Mitchell Marsh, Putland, Mark Cameron, Dougie Bollinger recover pretty soon.

----------

You can add Liam Davis to that list

Mark Cameron is a myth. He's the Bunyip of the Aus cricketing fraternity.

Knowles, Duffield, Dixon, Paris, Coulter-Nile, Marsh, WA do strike down their bowlers quite ruthlessly.

I agree, it helps no-one for teams like the last one fielded by WA in the Ryobi Cup to be part of any state comp. It wasn't at all up to standard and is degenerating for the competition overall.
