Trans-Tasman Trophy (NZ in Australia), December 2011/12

Hmm 241, it's bringing back memories of the 2nd Test vs SA a couple of wks ago. Hopefully it's as close as that one - be good to keep the run of thriller Test matches going.

Big innings for Hughes here - can he Marcus North it and save his spot with a big one??

I would have liked southee to come in a man higher there, he was always going to play like that, he's never played any other way. if southee could have come on earlier and just given the score a bit of a kick it might have taken a bit of the pressure off young who is struggling for form.

it certainly couldn't have done any harm, how was bracewell simply surving going to help any lower batsmen, pitch wasn't getting easier, and with 15 overs to the new ball that was when they could have looked to take scoring opportunities.

hindsight and all though.

That is a very good sign for Pattinson, getting a wicket on a flat pitch and a set and determined batter.

Agree. For mine the difference between Cummins and Pattinson on debut was that Cummins bowled well in a variety of conditions throughout the match, whereas Pattinson more or less just "clicked" for a single spell. His first innings at Bellerive was similar, really - but the 3fer in the second has been far more convincing.

...here comes Hughes!

Lucky break for Hughes on 0.. better make the most of it now, bought himself another innings.

He looked guilty as sin, there.

Can you imagine if Hughes had walked? Would never have gotten another game for Australia, even if he'd averaged 100+ for the next ten seasons. Just goes to show what a crock Gilly walking was (as he's said himself, to be fair). You don't do it when the game is on the line, not if you want to play for Australia.

with a cover drive like that, I can barely understand why he bothers to have a loose slash.

Hughes certainly looking more solid this innings. Obviously the doubt will still be there until we hit another green pitch but it's hard to drop him if he makes another 100.

I'll be a bit more confident if he gets to 20, still holding my breath every ball.

----------

Well he certainly middled that one

Hughes/Warner looking shaky as, will get out any ball now #ReversePsychologyFateEdition

----------

How many times can they replace the ball in one innings? Surely we're heading for a record here. A few more big drives and we'll soften it back up again, though.

What's with the Kiwi fielders diving from a mile away when the ball has pretty much hit the rope? Just asking for an injury, it's not lamb's wool.
