Trans-Tasman Trophy (NZ in Australia), December 2011/12

Kind of surprised we are batting well, it will be sure to come apart in the tests though.

They're finding singles hard to come by but boundaries are plentiful

I'm hoping this is a flat pitch as our bowlers haven't looked all that threatening by the sounds of things. Pattinson's wicket comes from a mistimes cut shot.

Well finally all ass, no class McCullum falls. 120 of his 146 runs coming from boundaries.

It was only a few years ago that the best country in the world was Australia, and Australia A were pretty much as good, if not better, than most of the other countries. Looking at this Australia A team and the score atm I'd back our domestic sides to give them a good run for their money.

In saying that McCullum's just been dismissed. Ryder needs a score here just for himself more than anything, it's been a while since he's done anything of note.

I reckon we'll cut them down pretty quick from here, just ran into a ballsy McCullum wanting to get one over on us while he still can.

The Australia 'A' side is more a team of players who may make the team in the future, not really the next best players in the country

Hi Lads, random contribution from me. News of McCullum's knock inspired me to make a return to these parts...

As I write I see on Cricinfo that Ryder has fallen to Cutting. Agree with Callum that he hasn't done a lot in recent times but I feel he does fit well into our middle order, which does have a fairly balanced look at the moment, touch-wood.

Australia A looks to have a quite a handy bowling attack on paper - correct me if I'm wrong but of the bowlers used, only Cutting hasn't represented Oz? So a good effort from the NZers to make a firm start, but that said we haven't bowled yet, there's still a lot that could go wrong. :D

Any thoughts on Brownlie vs Watling at number 6? As I'm an ND man I prefer Watling over the Cantabrian. Have seen Brownlie hit some good innings but he has looked a bit average in other innings have seen. However I think he did grow up in Aussie and his batting looks like it would suit Australian pitches.

Also I have hardly seen anything of Reece Young behind the sticks. I actually think he's a pretty good batsman but is he definitely the best gloveman in NZ?

I don't think Watling should be even considered for the number 6 spot personally, and that's coming from a ND supporter

Yeah, I'd take Browlie over Watling in the number six position. If you're going to play Watling you might as well use him to open the batting, hence play McCullum down at six and give him back the gloves, which will allow us to play Vettori and four pace bowlers.

Pretty sure McCullum wouldn't want that. I don't think he will keep in any FC match ever again tbh

On paper yes, but Hilfie is a serial non-taker of wickets with the new-ball, it's always annoying to see him get it and Starc just shouldn't be there. He's one of those young players that gets elevated on the slightest sniff of having done anything at all.

Cutting got brought in so late to the attack which makes you wonder how they see him.

Must have been fun to watch McCallum going off.

Really was McCullum that stuffed everyone's figures up. Looking at the strike rate of the rest of the batsmen, it was alot more standard. Cutting was on a hiding to nothing having to bowl at McCullum in full flight and basically in T20 mode. Will be good seeing how the bowlers go tomorrow without McCullum to worry about.

I take back my comments about Brendon McCullum. He's scored an awesome 146 in 115 balls against Aus A.21 4s and 6 6s.Unbelievable
