New Zealand in Australia 2011-12: Pat Cummins' heel adds to Australian injury troubles | Australia Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo

Pat Cummins has added to Australia's myriad injury troubles by revealing he carried a tender left heel home from his momentous debut in South Africa. ESPNcricinfo understands he is now in extreme doubt for the first Test against New Zealand in Brisbane.

Well fearsome tweak

----------

Meanwhile Starc picks up two wickets in his first two overs for the day for Aus A. At 6/308 I'll be surprised if they crack 335 from here.

Says he'll be right so hopefully that's the case else we are really in trouble on the bowling front.

Starc continues on with his Johnson like status, I can see him driving fans mad if he is picked. Patterson looks to have taken the lead with the wicket of Southee.

400 up, and 50 up for Dougie. Also Chris Martin hit Pattinson through the covers for four. :lol

We're past 365 now. :p

My predictions seem to have a habit of leaving me surprised lol :facepalm

Cricket Australia has today advised that Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris and Pat Cummins will be unavailable for selection for the first Vodafone Test against New Zealand starting at the Gabba on 1 December.

Dammit indeed. Gonna throw some vcash on the Kiwis with their 12-1 odds.

Well only about a hundred runs more than I expected, not a terrible prediction after all. Some pretty sweet batting by the Kiwis, especially Martin with a solid 4*. That'll boost the average.

Who would have thought, one game from Cummins and now we are feeling it as a massive blow. Even though the amount of injuries looks scary, most of us would have had Copeland in for Johnson in our last start while we have been looking to move Watson down the order and Warner looks to be in a rich vein of form. That leaves the more experienced Patterson replacing Cummins with a much better record.

Cricinfo confirms that 5 first choicers are out

So no Watson, Marsh, Cummins, Harris or Johnson. That means probably Warner will come in probably for Watto (unless they go for a random all-rounder like Steve Smith :noway), Copeland will come in and Pattinson/Hilfenhaus/Cutting/Starc in for the other spot. Can't see both Copeland and Hilfenhaus in the same XI as both play as holding-type bowlers, so one of the other 3.

Quite hard to make out if our bowlers were doing a Siddle/Johnson or McCullum/Bracewell were just in their grove and smashing everything. As right now the Kiwi bowlers are doing alright, no wickets but not leaking runs like our bowlers.

Despite the injuries I would think Australia will still win pretty easily 2-0, this attack just does not have it in them to take 20 wickets. Don't know what team we are likely to go in with but I'd only have one of either Vettori or Martin, probably take Vettori because of his batting. Hopefully my prediction goes woefully wrong like the rest of them and we win 2-0, and Martin takes a 10 fer :p

Actually now I think about it I'm not sure whether I would actually play Brownlie, our top five is pretty strong the bowling is the problem and Vettori could probably bat at 6 and do a better job than Brownlie.

If Bracewell wasn't a certainty before he is now. Looks to be bowling well and obviously had a good day with the bat.

I'm mostly bummed that Cummins will miss at least one warm-up Test before the Indians invade our shores. The other injuries we should cover pretty easily, everyone will fire and then we'll be left with too many options.

4 pace bowlers + Vettori is the way to go in my opinion.

Possible backup batsmen in Bailey and Smith failed. Cowan has stood up though, really does put a price on his wicket and previously performed for Aus A. If he can make a 100 then he could find himself as backup batsmen for the first test.

Is Williamson's bowling fairly crap then? His international strike rates are over 100. I was always under the impression he was going to be the all-rounder type guy. If he could step up his bowling it might help the balance.

As for the Aussies, well I think Warner's sown up his spot. It's just a matter of which pacemen stand up. Pattinson is probably ahead, he was on the SL tour and took the most wickets here. Cutting an outside show because he's the local - might get a go if he can bowl the Kiwis out in the 2nd innings. Hilfenhaus would be my 4th paceman/12th man, to play only if the pitch is green instead of Lyon. Then you'd just have Copeland and Hilf into the wind at one end keeping it tidy, while Pattinson and Siddle come down wind with a few quick overs from Clarke/Hussey/Warner to keep the overrate respectable. Not the most imposing attack though I'd have to say, they'd need a bit of help from the pitch/conditions to really trouble the Kiwi batting.
