Trans-Tasman Trophy (NZ in Australia), December 2011/12

Williamson's more of a part time bowler. He's handy but you wouldn't want him to bowl too many overs. And I always think he's gonna be no balled sometime for chucking tbh :spy

Well given all those injuries my AUS team would:

Warner
Hughes
Khawaja
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Copeland
Siddle
Pattinson
Bollinger

Wouldn't start Lyon in 3+1 balance in the bowling attack, given the freshness of the pace attack in the absence of Harris/Cummins/Watson.

Agree with the first 10, but Bollinger was injured recently during a NSW 4-day game. I'm thinking Lyon probably will round it out, or Hilfy if he bounces back in the 2nd innings for Aus A.

NZ have the upper hand in the match at stumps day 2.Warner played a good innings so did Cowan but till now the best has been Dougie Bracewell.First a very aggressive knock of 73 in 79 balls, now has taken 3 wickets including Warner and Smith.Hope he performs this way in the main test series against the depleted Aussies.

Bollinger is out for 21 days so he most definitely won't be playing. Given the side is named today most of the Aus A quicks have had their final show unless the selectors name an expanded squad again.

Well that was a horrid morning session for the Kiwis, it looks like not having a proper spinner started to show with the older ball.

Yes it's a bit odd Copeland missing out here. But then again it's the chance for the new selectors to put their stamp on things... I guess they wanted a left armer in Starc and he has bowled well at the Gabba. That ODI vs SL where he got a few wickets was at the Gabba and he got 5 in a state OD match for NSW last week up there.

Pattinson has been in so many squads that it's about time the home fans got to see what he's got. On paper I think it's a potentially very weak attack, but on the flip side there is a lot of promise in it and I'm keen to see how it goes :thumbs

Wait, hold the phone it's Cutting not Hilfenhaus in the 12.

Test squad: Michael Clarke (capt), David Warner, Phillip Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, Brad Haddin, Peter Siddle, Ben Cutting, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson.

"Trent has had a lack of opportunities to push for selection in recent times. He will be disappointed but will work hard with New South Wales and I have no doubt he will again be putting his hand up for inclusion with good performances for his state."

That is the logic Hilditch and co would use. I'd say Copeland's test career is done. This was the perfect series to see if Copeland's pace would be effective at this level. Now by not taking it those doubts will always remain when Copeland's name comes to the selection table. And with Hazlewood starting to regain his form and just recently cracked that 3 wickets per innings hoodoo, that is the final nail in the coffin.

Starc is truly Mitch Johnson Mk 2, all we are missing is Lillee calling him a once in a generation bowler. Both were picked on potential and being left arm bowlers while not showing nearly enough in Shield cricket.

We seem to be enjoy this 2 rightys, 1 lefty combo when it comes to fast bowling. Nothing wrong with picking 3 right handers with different styles, just look at SA or ENG. Would much rather Copeland in than having to watch Starc in a baggy green (guessing he'll get it just to provide that left handed option).

I don't think it's a certain form of logic, I think it's just a nice way of saying that he didn't do well enough. Similarly, Hilfenhaus would have been an experienced option for the Test side, but has been overlooked.

Ye I forgot Bollinger pulled up in the last FC game.

Don't mind the bowling selections in the squad actually, although I would have certainly picked Copeland over Starc.

As Aussie1st said, this may be a case where the new panel probably doesn't rate Copeland due to his lack of pace, since the reasoning they give for leaving him is weak.

He bowled well in unfavourable conditions in Sri Lanka, and given the youthfulness of the attack, Clarke could do with his bowling to call upon to dry up the runs.

But long term though, once everyone is fit, I do think it would be hard for Copeland to play again though.

Hopefully, when all bowlers go for 4+ runs, Clarke as a selector will want Copeland in. Also, Hughes still playing is just plain weird...

Cowan blasted century and he gets nothing in return.

I thought the new selectors would pick the better players, especially with Clarke and Arthur part of the selection panel.
