Teague could step down as Pakistan coach

Current Pakistan cricket coach Jack Teague may leave his post as manager of the national team, according to sources inside the camp. This comes after a poor set of results in the Super 8's round of the World Cup in the Caribbean.

Jack Teague, 33, has been in charge of the Pakistan national team for almost 10 months after being appointed to replace Bob Woolmer after his resignation. Teague has led Pakistan to two test series wins away from home against England and South Africa, as well as ODI series wins against England, West Indies and South Africa.

Pakistan breezed through the group stages of the World Cup, beating Ireland, Zimbabwe and the hosts, West Indies. Despite carrying their group stage win into the Super 8's they have lost four of their five games against Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and India.

Pakistan face England in their final game of the Super 8's on Thursday, needing a miracle to make it through to the semi-finals. It is expected that Jack Teague will speak to the press before the team flies back to Pakistan.

Good riddance to bad rubbish :p. Look at the teams you lost though; Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and India. They're top teams that'll give you a tough challenge any day of the week and losing to them isn't embarrassing. Other than New Zealand, they're all better than you and even the Kiwis are about on par with you.

Apart from the fact that we beat South Africa 4-1 in the ODI series in South Africa. I expected losses to Australia and India, but we've just been awful. Who knows, maybe I'll stay on...

A simple victory for us started with some tight bowling. New Zealand could only manage 258/5 off their 50 overs and with many wickets in hand, and batting all the way down to 9, you would of thought they would of gone for it a bit more. All the players that batted all scored at least 12 which made a decent viewing. Fulton and Fleming opened the innings before Fleming fell for 24. MicMillan didn't last around too long, going for 16, and being shortly followed by Oram for 22. Fulton and Ryder then put on the best partnership of 74 beofre Ryder fell for 39. Sinclair was the last batsman to get out for a poor 12 off 20 balls. McCullum and Fulton then put on 50* for the last wicket partnership as Fulton bypassed his first century of the world cup. 106* off 115 was his fantastic tally, being helped well by McCullum with 32* off 24 balls. Asif and Kaneria were the only bowlers to get wickets. Asif got 2-47 and Kaneria got 3-50 as they were the only bowlers to be effective.

Our chase started well and ended well. Umar and Tariq put on a good opening stand before Tariq was removed by Frankling for 29. Umar and Khan put on 50+ partnership and then follwed by Umar and Inzi put on another 50+ partnership as our batsmen found the hcase easy. 26 for Khan and 30 for Inzi, being their final scores. Umar didn't last long with Yousuf as he fell for an emphatic 126 off 123 which was another brilliant innings for the opener. Shahid Yousuf and Shahid Afridi then took us home with 25* off 30 and 14* off 15 respectively to record an easy chase. This marked the end of the Super Eights with India, Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand all progressing.

Treva! Poor bowling there! Easy victory for you there Jazzy, could have been a tough total to chase but you got their. Nice batting by Fulton for the kiwis.

We called heads, only for the coin to land on tails. South Africa sent us in to bat. It was a decent start until Umar fell for 5 runs to Kallis. 33/1 off ten overs showed that the batsmen had recuperated after the wicket of Umar. A massive six from Tariq saw some uncharacteristic batting, enjoyable though. The good partnership of 60 ended with Tariq falling only 4 runs short of his half century, managing 46 off 57. Inzi had only came in but at the 25 over stage he had already taken over Khan! 107/2 with Khan on 26* off 46 and Inzi on 27* off 33 saw Pakistan slightly in control. Khan then tried to pick up his run rate but only succeeded in getting out for 43 runs. Shahid Yousuf was in and his first ball saw a wicket. Inzi was ran out for 48 runs! Three of the top four got out in the 40s!

Mohammad and Shahid Yousuf needed to bat well together but Shahid fell for 6 runs. It was a poor innings by the yougn batsman. Afridi came in and then went back out for 6 runs off 6 balls. Pakistan were having a BT collapse. A partnership of 41 was just what Pakistan needed to claw them over 200. Yasir Arafat was eventually out for 19 off 19, but Yousuf was still in. Yousuf had to bat with the tail but he could not, getting caught off Nel's bowling for 30 runs. 220/8 was the final score after Kaneria and Naved put on 11 together. On a bowlers pitch, that is not a bad score.

26 runs for the opening partnership saw South Africa in the same position as we generally were. Graeme Smith was removed for 16 runs, which was a big relief for me. Naved Ul Hasan was brilliant with his opening spell, with 8-1 off 5 overs. Kallis was out for 24 soon after but Gibbs was doing all the damage and chasing down his half century. Another wicket followed as Duminy got a golden duck. Gibbs brought up his half century and would no doubt get man of the match now. The seamers needed to get the wickets, but they were not and the spinners were left to get the wickets against the batsmen who love spinners. Works, I guess.

Rudolph finally got out for 41 off 49 to Afridi as South Africa closed in on the required total. South Africa needed 22 runs off the last 7 overs, with Gibbs just past his century. Two tight overs from Afridi and Naved meant that South Africa now needed 18 runs off the last 5 overs. Afridi and Naved proceeded to use up their last few overs with good cause. With two overs to go in the match, South Africa needed 8 runs. Kaneria would bowl the second last over with Asif bowling the last. A sensational match had a sensational finish as Kaneria conceded only 3 runs of his over, leaving South Africa 5 to win off the last over. They only got two runs, with De Villiers getting out in the process, to make Pakistan go through to the final with a 2 run victory. It was a close one but Pakistan bowled brilliantly at the death. India had beaten New Zealand which meant...

India v Pakistan Final!

Nice win, can't believe you did it though, should have been an easy chase. Should be a top final! Good stuff here, kiu!

Ind/Pak final, who'd of thought it? :)

Any prediction for the match, Matt? Should be up later today. Oh and yeah, towards the end I didn't think I could do it but it was a bowlers pitch and it decided to help me later rather than sooner. Cheers for the comment.

I don't think I can write you off after what I've seen you do on ICC. This last game, the batting wasn't great but you bowled well enough. I'll predict a Pakistan win by either 27 runs or 6 wickets.

Fantastic win Jaz (I didn't know about this until he posted)! India-Pak final, which is what you have talked about all through the Super 8's :p You think India will win, but I doubt that very much. Come on James, do it for Pakistan :D

India were the only team to beat Pakistan in the Super Eights, whilst they won all their matches. Pakistan only lost one match, and that was by 2 wickets to India. This should be a blockbuster. India win the toss and elect to bat first. Asif bowls a maiden to get this match to a good start for... Perfect start for Pakistan! 2/1 with Yuvraj Singh failing to score more than one run off two balls. Naved Ul Hasan with an important wicket in his first over, although that wicket unleashes Tendulkar. Sehwag smashed Naved for two consecutive boundaries before he is dropped by Inzi! He was only on 11* so this could cost Pakistan dearly.

Fortunately for Pakistan, he goes a while after. 25 was the amount of runs he accumulated off his 26 deliveries to put India on 31/2. Tendulkar is batting slowly and will hope to stay in with Laxman. An appeal for a catch behind on Tendulkar was turned down as Naved searched for his third wicket. A fifth over, his last of the spell, by Asif saw him pick up his first wicket. There was a no ball earlier on in the over and that meant he had to bowl seven deliveries. Apart from the no ball it was a wicket maiden as he bowled Laxman for 1 run with his last ball. 1-8 off 5 overs for Asif! Mesmerising stuff.

Naved then got tanked by Tendulkar for 3 boundaries in his last over as he reached 2-38 off 5 overs! He got two wickets but was incredibly expensive. Arafat and Afridi replaced the seam bowlers. Few chances were coming, as Tendulkar neared his half century, until Guatam Gambhir got a thick edge to an Arafat delivery and was caught by Umar. 10 runs was all he could make with Tendulkar stationed on 49* off 51 deliveries.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was now into the attack and wouldn't be holding back. A sensational maiden from Afridi meant that Tendulkar was still on 49*! Arafat came in to bowl his last over of his current spell, going for 7 runs with Tendulkar bringing up his half century in the process. 50 off 58 balls is not too shabby at all. Afridi then came in to bowl his last over, only going for two singles. 0-21 were Afridi's figures, which were quite a bit better than 1-35 of Arafat.

Kaneria was brought into the attack alongside Naved, who got his third wicket! Tendulkar was the man to go after edging a straight delivery to Younis Khan, who gracefully took the catch. 55 off 72 balls was a good effort from Tendulkar, despite India now on 109/5! Joginder Sharma was now in and he didn't get out last time we played India. Asif was brought back into the attack just past the 25 over mark, for Naved, and in his first over his line and length was astonishing. Only one run off it and an lbw appeal, which looked plum, but was turned down.

No-one was looking like they were going to get a wicket until Naved was brought back into the attack and got two chances. Sharma had to face an appeal for a catch behind and an lbw appeal, but luckily for him, neither amounted to anything. Dhoni however was on 40* off 54 balls and had not played and missed any of given any chances. Wicket! Dhoni was the man to go, which Pakistan wanted so badly, with Naved picking up his fourth wicket in the final. 44 runs off 60 deliveries was a brilliant score but it leaves India on 174/6 and needing some more runs to get past 200.

Asif was brought into the attack in the 44th over and got the next wicket. Joginder Sharma would not survive the match like last time and was bowled by Asif for 38 runs. This meant the tail would now need to put on as many runs as they could for India. 195/7. 213/8. Harbhajan Singh had done exactly what India wanted and scored a quick 17 off 25 balls. He batted well before getting clean bowled by Afridi. A very strange last over By Asif, ended up being 8 balls. Two lbw appeals, Dropped catch and a run out, let alone three runs, all happened in the last over which marked an excellent attempt by Asif. 223/9 was the score for India.

0/1. Taufeeq Umar gave us a terrible start as he got a three ball duck. Tariq didn't last too long as he gave away his wicket with a thick edge through to Dhoni to be removed for 17 off 19 balls. We needed a big score from someone. With the run rate starting to get over 5, Inzi started to smash some boundaries. 87/2 off 22 overs was quite slow. Munaf Patel came into the attack, conceding 14 runs off his first over, seeing us to 111/2 at the 25 over mark. 113 runs at 4.5 an over. It's tight.

Inzi then brought up his first OD half century of the World Cup! Despite not scoring a 50 this World Cup, he still average 50.60. 13 runs off Patel's second over saw him bowl quite laughable. 27 runs off his first 2 overs, not the best start for Patel. Khan then brought up his slow 50, his fourth of the World Cup. He has only scored one century, can he make it a second? An awesome partnership was definitely developing with Inzi scoring 70* off 71 balls and being the aggressive batsman, whilst Khan was on 64* off 101 balls and being the supporter. They were working together well.

A wicket! Younis Khan was run out thanks to some lazy running by Inzi. Just when you thought India couldn't come back into the match, they find a way. 66 runs off 109 balls was a great innings by Khan although it was the captain's fault he is out. Shahid Afridi was surprisingly brought up the batting order ahead of both Yousufs. Strange decision by the Captain but it could end up well as Afridi loves seam and thats what he will get. Still, it is a little sad to see the end of a 132 run partnership.

It seemed to be a good idea by the Captain to bring Afridi in as he quickly raced to 17* off 18 balls. The 39th over, with Pakistan on 196/3, saw Harbhajan Singh back into the attack, which could be trouble for Afridi. A boundary off the Singh's first ball from Afridi seemed to rest some doubt, but Afridi is not the best player of spin. Afridi faced every single ball of the over, scoring 9 runs off it. He was batting very well considering he had just come in.

Inzi was now into the 90s. He was on 90* off 87 balls but Pakistan only needed 10 runs to win. He might fall just short! Pakistan need one run to win... Pakistan have won! With 46 balls to spare, 7.4 overs, Pakistan have won the World Cup. Inzamam Ul-Haq was tremendous in this final and got 96* off 91 balls whilst Afridi finished on 40* off 37 balls. It was a remarkable batting performance, which would of no doubt saw Pakistan reach 300, although it did follow a good bowling performance.

A fantastic World Cup for Pakistan who have beaten their rivals, India, in the Final. India may of won the battle in the Super Eights, but Pakistan have won the war! Pakistan last won it against England in 1992 but have won it for a second time. They have now won it more times than rivals India, who have only won it once. Naved Ul Hasan was man of the match, but Inzi deserved it just as much for his remarkable 96*. What a match. What a World Cup.

Pakistan win the World Cup! :D

No surprise there. When Jaz is playing Pakistan on ICC then Pakistan will surely win. Good win there but the Indians played badly..
