Tri-series in West Indies - June/July 2013

I dont know why Kohli/management jumbled up the batting lineup - coming at no.3 and Vijay at no.4 would have made sense. But bringing vijay at 6 and bringing raina before DK. Dont really understand what the thought process is behind such a move. That too when the openers got off to a very good start

Last match, Vijay and Karthik slowed down the momentum considerably. So Kohli might have thought sending himself and Raina up would help the team achieve/keep the momentum going. It has worked to an extent. But these regular interval wickets have slowed India down a lot. Wish Ashwin and/or Bhuvaneshwar Kumar along with Kohli take India to the 50 over mark. If we bat 50 overs here, we might reach 275-280 which will be a decent score.

I guess so. It almost looks like a panicky move from Kohli.

Raina and Jadeja are finishers - should have kept Raina for the end really. As long as Kohli stays till the end, India should be fine

274 to win off 39 overs. Rain has helped India as the 6th bowler, by bowling 11 overs for 38 runs for no wicket. The presence of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar has almost immediately helped India, as he has picked 2 wicket. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is becoming India's vital cog in the shorter format, especially in the opening bowling.

Hope the spinners come good here. Very crucial if India have to win this. By the way, brilliant hundred for Virat Kohli. Hope it rubs off on his captaincy too. Ashwin gave Kohli great company, and they ransacked WI bowling to take India to a 300+ score. Would love a bonus point here which can bring us back into the tournament.

So what is the criteria now for India to qualify for the finals?Do we depend on the other result too?

If Sri Lanka beat WI and by a good margin, India will need to win against SL and win by a margin that surpasses WI's net run rate. If Sri Lanka lose to WI, they have to lose huge which will bring down their very healthy run rate. Then India need to beat SL by a margin that surpasses SL's run rate.

Which means, India's fate is still in their own hands.

OMG!!!!!!! That bonus point the WI leaked may well land the Indians in the final, bit unfair since its due to the rain the Indians got that!

All Sri Lanka have to do is defeat the Indians, thats all!

Rain or not,the West Indians were bowled out totally.India would have won by a big margin either ways.

This!

As Rameez Raja said, 'pedestrian stuff' from the Windies bowlers. If I'm correct, Kohli got his 50 in the 43rd over, and all he needed was 7 more overs with the help of Ashwin, and primarily Bravo and co. to get to his first century in the Caribbean. Taking nothing away from Kohli, West Indies had the best chance when Jadeja was out, but all they did was make a mockery of their bowling.

And India will not perform in the same way in 3 consecutive games.
Yeah! :D

Although quite a few things to be noted, Dinesh Karthik, he has had chances (many) where he can play his typo innings. That is why he's in the middle order. Yeah he still deserves a chance, but not many coming in the way though, if he fails the same way.
Could somebody tell me if Rayudu is now with the Indian team?

A solid foundation laid by the openers, but the middle order collapsed again, barring Kohli, not sure when they'll understand that the primary thing is to build on, and not play hit/miss!

270 should have been a par score, but India was well helped by their bowlers. :facepalm

Not surprisinlgy, West Indian middle order failed big time, and this was expected tbh! Lack of depth in the middle order, most of them lack patience, so what it was reduced to 39 overs, atleast try to build on.:facepalm Sad to see Darren Bravo getting out cheaply.
Will not talk much about Indian bowlers here:noway ALthough, Bhuvi is now proving to be such an asset:clap

Whereas for Best, mahn!!He wasn't that fast 10 years ago.(?) Umesh should learn something from him.

IMO, 250-260 are very much defendable targets, unless your bowlers crash the same way the Indians did against the Lanka or the other day what West Indians did.

Umm..no. If Sri Lanka lose to WI even by 1 run, all India will need to do then is beat Sri Lanka irrespective of the NRR. Because then Sri Lanka will have 5 points whereas India will have 9 points in the end. The NRR equation only comes to play if Sri Lanka beat WI and India beat Sri Lanka.

Yep.

Thats why I am gonna be backing Sri Lanka in tomorrow's match!

Yes the West Indians did give the game to India, all I am saying is hadn't rain affected the game the Indians would not have been able to get that bonus point!

Yes... My bad. My calculation was wrong. Wish WI recover and thump SL hard. But even if SL win, India will have their fate in their hands. If SL beat WI by a decent margin, WI run rate can go down. WI are at a negative run rate and just -0.3 away from us. If they lose by a decent margin, it can go down further and India will then need to beat Lanka by a decent margin that lets them go to the final with Sri Lanka.

Right now, all 3 teams in the fray! And the dangerous thing for WI and SL is that, India have already suffered a big setback which will keep them on their toes.

Is Rayudu still unavailable or just not being played? Surely it doesn't take this long for one to fly-in...

They are not playing him, that's all. Vijay is being given preference because he has been with the squad longer.
