I'm hoping Virat gets a go in this game since we're already through to the final.

We need to win the game to keep the No.1 tag and thats a prime focus for Kirsten and the whole team. I think we will treat it as a crucial game. Being No.1 is a big big thing man.

Maybe Virat can come in place of Karthik and open. Virat has done it before (opening for India in ODI's)

Virat opened at the same time in Srilanka last year.Remember that series when he and Badri made debuts.Kohli ws very impressive then, only to be dropped meaninglessly after that series. He must grab the opportunity with both hands now.

@ irottev: I agree with you. The pitch at Premadasa has been downright pathetic. Poor poor advertisement for ODI cricket which is facing lot of criticism and possible tinkering of the format. Regarding NZ, the batting doesnt possess the class of people like Cairns or Craig McMillan.

well then everyone should just practice to be a batsman. why should some youngster try to be the next great bowler when everyone wants pitches to favor the batsman.

The pitches need to fast and bouncy and must have some movement early on and can support the bowlers that way.The game too'll be interesting that way. These pitches are slow and sluggish and are really boring to watch.

Just going through the 3-4 pages that I didn't read last night I have to laugh at the people having a go at Dravid. He did what was expected of him, turning the strike over to Sachin. Chasing 155 here at night isn't easy but you don't need to try and chase it down in 30 odd overs, I thought Dravid done very well tbh.

Regarding the pitch, yes it's a shocker but both teams have to bat on it so I'm not going to complain about it. Like someone has already said it's not the best advertisement for 50 over cricket.

For New Zealand well...... Where do I start. It was a shocking tour, not that I expected much anyway. I think it's time Ryder and McCullum split up though as I'd much rather see McCullum down the order making use of the batting powerplay instead. Broom has to be given a chance in this team and I feel he should be batting at four with Ross Taylor at three. I'm also getting a little sick of Ian Butler tbh. He's a 130-135K bowler who bowls way too many four balls during his spell, except for one or two games I haven't been impressed with him at all.

Changes?

I think it's time for Oram to buzz of, hopefully he gets dropped for a good spell in domestic cricket (I can't see it happening though). I was also thinking it's about time for new blood. Kane Williamson isn't ready and he still needs a full season at three for ND before New Zealand think about picking him, I wouldn't mind Watling coming into the team though as he has very good List A record. I would love for us to give guys like Mitchell McCleanghan a try out for our 20/20 team during the summer, we need someone as a change up bowler with actual pace and he has it (145)+

1.Guptill
2.Watling
3.Ryder
4.Taylor

I've changed my mind mid way through my post but oh well, I'd much rather have Ryder come in first change.

I think we also need a attitude change to with how we go about our batting (In both forms of the game). To hear guys like McIntosh and Flynn talk about their 50's and 60's like they're 100's and 200's is very sad. Too many of our batsmen are just happy to do enough to stay in the team, ala Ross Taylor who should of gone on with that 80 he got in the second test. If it's good enough to drop someone like Aaron Redmond for making 80 against Australia then it should be good enough to drop a hack like McIntosh. Tbh I don't think I like Moles too much, he seems happy enough with guys like Flynn making meaningless contributions and making out like they have learnt something which just isn't the case.

We just need a shake up, a big one. Hopefully this makes some of our better players more hungry to want to go on and make themselves better players. Taylor, Ryder, Guptill, and McCullum have as much talent as any of the Sri Lankan and Indian batsmen so they should start using it.

As a New Zealand fan I think we've got a long two-three years infront of us.

SL are seriously looking good right now. I would say they are the number 1 team atm. They have the most deadly opening pair in ODI cricket, followed by the ever reliable Jayawardene and Sangakkara. Then you the inform Samaraweera, the now performing Kandamby and Mathews grabbing 6 wickets against India.

Bowling doesn't drop off in a talent either with the leading wicket taker of ODI cricket this year in Kulasekara, Malinga doing his slinging and the up and coming Thushara. Followed by the spin twins in Mendis and of course Mathews.

It was really bad bowling by India in last overs, lets hope that India will learn from this big defeat in the final...

is this the same pitch? same ground that you guys were complaining about?

Jayasuriya!! you still got it old man!!

Only way they can learn from this is by dropping Yusuf, Nehra and RP. All are useless.

Yusuf is picked as an all rounder yet Dhoni trusts Yuvi's bowling far more. If he's selected as a slogger/very aggressive batsman then he's still not consistent or reliable enough. I understand that reliability may be an opportunity cost when going for such an aggressive batsman, but not to that extent.

Nehra. Well, I didn't get too excited after the last match. I knew it wouldn't be too long before he was spanked all over the place. He simply isn't good enough.

RP. He's been given enough chances tbh. He's not making anything of them. PK would be a better option.

I agree. Prabeen is perfect for Siril conditions. Nayar too, in the mould of an Angelo Matthews who can make us of these conditions.

Having not watched any of the Sri Lankan innings, I have to say that it's hard to pick someone as being far and out the best ODI team at the moment.

I think pretty much everyone in the top 5 has a fair shot against anyone else and it wouldn't be considered an upset if a lower ranked team beat a higher ranked one.

Brilliant performance by Jayasuriya and Kandamby. Great bowling by Matthews. Our bowling is still not the worldclass. We need to maintain our consistency.
