New Zealand, in their efforts to increase more viewership for this ODI series are bent on providing good batting pitches which also offer something in it for the bowlers. The strip for today's game is a batting pitch but is expected to help the bowlers at brief stages of the match. Its going to be an even contest between the bat and ball. The likely score here is going to be between 240-270 depending on how the batsmen apply themselves batting first! The team winning the toss would love to bat first as this is a Day/night game with bowlers getting more offer in the night time.

India have decided to retain the same line up that won against England. While the New Zealand team has dropped Lou Vincent and Darrel Tuffey and has included Shane Bond and Paul Wiseman into the attack. Wiseman being selected because the wicket is a batting track with not much in it for the fast bowlers.

This match will be a Day/night affair. From now on, all New Zealand matches plus the final will be Day/night and all other matches would be Day games.

India vs. New Zealand....going to be fun to watch....hope fully india plays well

India vs New Zealand - New Zealand elect to bat first!

Stage set for India - New Zealand to start!

Things are looking positive at Christchurch with the weather not playing too much of an interferrence. All eyes on the pitch and how it is going to play. Lets get down with Martin Crowe for the pitch report.

Martin Crowe: The pitch looks good to last the whole day. It has some moisture at the start of the game and would remain for the first one hour. But then, the pitch would flatten out to become a very good batting track. Ideally, the team batting first will have a bit of disadvantage because of the early moisture. But since this game is a Day/night one, the disadvantage evens out as the ball will have some movement in the night.

Greg Chappell: So, this should set up a good exciting game between two of the top quality sides in the world. Lets get down to the toss with Ian Chappell.

Dravid and Fleming, the two captains look confident at the toss. Chappell asks Dravid to toss the coin. Fleming calls Heads. The coin comes down and Fleming bends down on the coin in anticipation of a Heads and it is indeed HEADS!!!

I Chappell:Your call Fleming?

Fleming: We are going to have a bat first. The wicket looks good for batting. And we did not chase well under the lights in the previous game against England. So we do want to try out the other option of setting a target here!

I Chappell: Any changes in your squad?

Fleming: Lou Vincent and Tuffey are dropped and Shane Bond and Paul Wiseman comes into the side.

I Chappell: Thank you Fleming. So Dravid, feeling disappointed?

R Dravid: Not at all Ian. We would have been happy with either result on the toss. It doesnt matter big to us. We are here to play good cricket and win. The wicket will be good for batting throughout the game.

I Chappell: Any changes to your squad?

R Dravid: No. We play the same team that beat England!

I Chappell: Thanks Dravid. So gentlemen, New Zealand win the toss and decide to bat first!

New Zealand off to a good start!

New Zealand 33/1 after 7 overs

New Zealand have started off well in their innings though the wicket of Astle at the end of the 7th over might have brought them back a bit. Both Astle and Fleming started off well but somewhere between the 3rd and the 5th over, the momentum slipped back a bit but the 6th and the 7th overs were very fruitful for New Zealand until a fatal misjudgement by Astle saw him being LBW to Zaheer Khan.

New Zealand hammer India!

New Zealand hammer India - 93/2

New Zealand have hammered India in the last 5 overs. From a normal position of 55/1 in the first 10 overs, they have scored 38 runs off the next 5 overs to finish at a very commanding position of 93/2 after the first 15 overs.

New Zealand, who were 55/1 after ten overs, then lost Scott Styris for 0. Zaheer Khan bowled a slower ball to Styris first ball up and Styris lofted the ball but badly mistimed it. But the fielder could not complete the catch but the fielder saw Styris running to the danger end and quickly effected a throw back to Khan who whipped the bails off with Styris well short of his ground

Then, MC Millian joined together with Fleming. Mc Millian had a life when he was running to the non striker's end and Pathan whipped off the bails. The replays proved inconclusive but Mc Millian was adjudged not out! Indian fans would have been disappointed as they thought Mc Millian was short of his ground. Then, he started to blaze the shots all over the ground. Kumble in particular came for severe treatment from both Fleming and Mc Millian as he was hit for 12 runs off each of his 2 overs so far with all of them coming in fours.

C. Mc Millan 28* (26)

the last pic, isn't that fleming?

Yeah! good game so far, very interesting. 93 in 15 overs, if they don't lose wickets they should be on for a good score. Hope india pounce back again.

Good luck!
