Planning to test Boss's latest CGPv4 patch for the next ODI between India and England tomorrow. Not that Tutsi's patch is bad (it cant ever be bad with Tutsi) but just that I want to test other patches too and give a better view for the viewers who are interested in trying out various patches!
Will switch back to Tutsi 8.0 soon!
Well, the first part of the tri series is over and the euphoria surrounding India's victories have mellowed down among the fans. After a not so exciting first two matches where India put it past England and England did almost the same to New Zealand, the series finally came to its own with the neck breaking third ODI between India and New Zealand at Christchurch. Truly, both teams didnt deserve to lose such an ODI which India eventually won by a solitary wicket. Both teams played top notch cricket and it was only fitting that a mediocre series so far saw some exhalirating cricket from two top quality sides.
Ajay Jadeja, the former India specialist ODI player who has been brought back into the team came back to his amazing best with a top class 95* that eventually won India the game (off the last ball of course!). He was well backed up by Tendulkar and Dravid who played little crucial innings of their own.
Now the focus shifts to the second part of the league matches. India would be gravely wrong if they rest on their laurels in this series so far. Three more matches remain in this series and still they have an outside chance of not qualifying for the final (Read possible scenarios of the next three matches here ). New Zealand on the other hand, must be cursing themselves for not scoring a few more runs in the previous razor edge ODI against India. They must now win both matches to qualify for the final. England also need to be careful on their steps and a defeat and they might be staring at the possibility of an exit from the tournament.
The wicket at Wellington looks a true New Zealand wicket - full of grass and a totally seam oriented wicket! The team that wins the toss here is probably going to dictate terms in this match! The outfield looks unusually slow here and the ball might stop at various places of the ground making it tough for the batsmen to find full range for their shots. In all likelihood, we might be in for a low scoring game!
We are yet to receive any notification from the management of the England team about their possible final 12 for this match. India on the other hand, have dropped Irfan Pathan from their final XI. Pathan did not have a good first two matches and India have brought back Ashish Nehra into the final XI. Their batting needs no tinkering - its among the best right now in the world.
The two captains right now could not give an interview but we caught up for an interview with the star of the previous match, Ajay Jadeja on his previous match and the prospects of the next game. Martin Crowe down with Jadeja
Interview with Ajay Jadeja:
Crowe: Hello Ajay. How has the past two days been for you?
Jadeja: Very exciting. The previous match and my contribution in it has rejuvenated me and my team mates. We have had some good celebration after that win where at one point, we thought we might mess it up. But on the whole, an exciting two days of rest and celebration for me.
Crowe: How do you rate that innings of yours?
Jadeja: Possibly in my Top 5 innings. Because that innings had a lot of importance associated with it. It was my first big innings after my comeback, and my comeback itself was met with a lot of mixed response, my team mates worry on how they would look at me in the future and the status of the match when I came into bat. So it was a very satisfying innings under immense pressure.
Crowe: So your ready for tomorrow's game against England?
Jadeja: Of course. We are ready for the match. We are particularly keen on avoiding complacency creeping up in our game and we would really fight hard to win the rest of the matches in this tournament.
Conditions: Day Game, only 5% chances of rain, Warm weather
Pitch: Green wicket, well suited for the fast bowlers
City: Wellington
Teams: India vs England
Series: Adidas Tri Series
Match #: 4
League Round #: 2
India and England finally kick start the second round of this exciting Adidas Triangular series with a match against each other at Wellington. The weather here is very warm and has only 5% chances of rain coming in. The stands are above half full with the Indian supporters hogging most of the space. But England's Barmy Army cant be discounted also. Ane exciting atmosphere prevailing around the ground.
The pitch on offer has been the center of debate for the past two days. Since both England and India do not have much of a say on the pitch, the pitch being offered is a bowler's paradise. It is a wicket full of grass that should do many ugly tricks throughout the game. The batsmen are surely going to have a nightmare of a game and the bowlers should be licking their lips in delight. The team that wins the toss most probably would have won more than 50% of the game!
Both teams who were practising on the field, went back to their dressing rooms and the captains have changed to their ODI uniform and are now out in the middle for the toss with Robin Jackman.
Robin Jackman: Toss the coin, Vaughan?
(Vaughan tosses the coin)
Dravid: Heads!
(The coin comes down and both captains wait in anticipation. And LO!! Heads it is!)
Robin Jackman: Your call, Dravid?
Dravid (in a gleeful manner): We would love to bowl first on this track full of grass and with huge lateral seam movement. Our bowlers should exploit this track to the fullest and restrict England to a paltry score.
Robin Jackman: Any changes to your squad?
Dravid: Nehra comes in for Irfan Pathan
R.Jackman: Thank you Dravid. Sorry Vaughan, disappointed with the toss?
Vaughan: Of course. But the toss relies on luck and luck is not permanent. We hope to survive the first hour or so and then try to get a total of 200 or above which should be more than enough on this pitch.
R.Jackman: Any changes to your squad?
Vaughan: No. Same squad that beat New Zealand in the 2nd game!
R.Jackman: Thanks gentlemen. So, India won the toss and Dravid gleefully decides to bowl first! Over to the commentary box.
M.Crowe: That was the expected decision from the winner of the toss. England are in for a very tough time on the field now!
England start off rollickingly - 78/2 after 11 overs!
Geriant Gones 24*
M.Trescothick 29
A.Kumble 1/7 (1)
WHAT A START FROM ENGLAND? On a nightmare of a batting pitch, Trescothick and Jones flayed the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground. For a moment, it looked like one was playing on a bare pitch without any assistance to the bowlers. Nehra bowled well but Agarkar was clubbed for 28 runs off 2 overs! He was replaced immediately and Zaheer Khan along with Nehra restored sanity in the proceedings.
Both Trescothick and Joned batted wonderfully. At a period of time, nothing that India bowled looked like getting them a wicket. But after 8th over or so, Jones looked like getting out when he started trying to manufacture shots. But the vital moment of the innings for India came when Kumble was introduced into the attack in place of Zaheer Khan. Kumble stuck off his very first ball, bowling a straight flipper to Trescothick which Trescothick tried to sweep and missed it to be plumb LBW for 29. A visibly shattered Trescothick made public his disappointment by flinging his bat!
And that was not the end of the Kumble over. More drama was to follow in the same over. Vaughan despatched the 4th ball of that over the covers for a huge six. The ball went 3 rows into the stands. But off the sixth ball, Vaughan flicked a ball to the leg side and tried to scamper for a single. But Dhoni ran to the leg side, picked the ball and threw to Kumble in one full motion and Kumble easily found Vaughan short of his crease. Vaughan was run out for 7!
