West Indies in England

I agree with SS completely. We need Prior and Cook to dig in. Face the spells from the new ball bowlers who bowled exceptionally well. Then capitalise on the rest of the bowling before they could settle, we did exactly that.
Cook played a poor shot, trying to force the pace.

The situation required it, I hope it's not the same at somewhere like say the Oval where any batsman with credibility should score runs.

Took the words out of my mouth. All two often in the recent past we have got off too slow starts, and never gone on to get those big totals. We have always relied on people like K.P and Freddie to up the scoring rate, and when they fail we lose.

The jury is still out for Cook in ODI's.

I like this order though, because really anyone bar Cook and Bell as a known upper gear that works well. And I'm sure if push came to shove Bell could, he needs to take some more responsibility, once he gets a hundred I think we'll have a little gem at No.3.

Agreed. There is no doubt he has the ability and I am sure they will come much more often once he gets his first, its just getting past that barrier.

Ian Bell reminds me of Rahul Dravid, someone who improved as an ODI player over the years and is one of the best in the game currently.

Good player but needs to learn to run between the wickets always getting his partners run out. He has to be one of the worst! Another observation rarely goes on to big scores always throws his wkt away.

pest.

Cook needs to be the anchor who bats through. Playing aggressive isn't his natural game. Him playing that shot shows me he's uncomfortable. Prior is more naturally aggressive. Cook needs to rotate strike and pick up the boundaries from the bad balls. He shouldn't be forcing the pace Very rarely do you see 2 batsmen going aggressive in an ODI at the same time. I can understand players going out playing that shot when they are out there playing aggressively, but not when they have spent a good amount of time getting through the hard stage. They really should be looking to make hay.

edit:

I can't understand England's team selection. They went and changed a bowling attack which bowled West Indies out quite well by changing 2 bowlers. Oh well, maybe it'll work for them.

edit 2:

Well it didn't take long for me to be proven right. 9 runs from Sidebottoms first over, 6 of which were wides. Wheres Plunkett? Do the selectors hate him? He never gets a fair chance. He is also a pretty decent lower order batsman.

I can unsderstand the dropping of Panesar a little bit but the Plunkett dropping is ridiculous. Collingwood said they've replaced Panesar to bulk up the batting so they brought in Yardy. Well if that's the case why not drop Panesar for Plunkett instead? It's just silly.

I don't think you could blame Cook for playing a 'poor' or 'unneeded shot'. Was a great ball, he couldn't do anything about the shot or he'd have cracked ribs at the moment.

West Indies at the moment are 176-2 after 40 overs. This is a good platform to get about 250 runs in the end. And it was a good move to promote Chanderpaul up the order.

This is a record 3rd wicket partnership. Currently 158.

Surpasses the former record of 150 by Inzi and Anwar.

Big over. 19 from it. And the English commentators show no enthusiasm at all..

Wicket! Samuels finally goes! he goes for 77.

3/242

Chanderpaul 94*
46 overs.

West Indies batsmen have really hammered the English bowlers since the 40th over.

Chanderpaul just grabbed his 7th ODI century. :)

It's ironic that such a quick runner and a player whose game relies on many quick singles is so poor at running.
