i meant decent 1-day batsmen....who will make the most of the fielding restrictions (you know.. like ALL other ODI teams but us)
But that's exactly why they're sucking so hard. They have to play their own game, not someone else's.
Today's game
West Indies 1/93 (20.0)
England 4/84 (20.0)
The previous game
West Indies 2/84 (20.0)
England 3/95 (20.0)
Neither team got anywhere near 6 an over and in the last game, England had done a better job of scoring, but both times, England had used more wickets and both times, England was comprehensively defeated. Sure, having a Jayasuriya or Smith or Gilchrist open is an advantage, but scoring slowly is a secondary problem to bleeding wickets. You can always increase the run rate, but you can't buy back wickets. If the plan is right, even a cautious player like Chanderpaul shows destructive tendencies.
If they were struggling to chase 300+ totals set by South Africa, Sri Lanka or Australia, then we could talk about how they need a batsman who can turn a Powerplay on its head. However, they're not having that problem, they're struggling to chase sub 300 totals against a team that is regarded as one of the worst.
Mind you, England have a damaging batsman who's apparently too chicken to play in the top order. Consult him about the Powerplays.
