West Indies in Zimbabwe/South Africa

Well done West Indies. I'm so glad to see them win a test after so long. :)

They outperformed SA in every department really and deserved it fully.

A lot of the SA players looked massively undercooked. Must have been complacent and gone in rusty. Steyn especially was WAY different to against NZ. His pace was down 10 km and his accuracy was bad. e had period of brilliance but couldn't keep his consistency like he did against NZ.

New Zealanders are 'scared'* of extreme pace. They can't handle it for some reason. Take it from a fast bowler that bowling fast to someone who is scared is a hell of a lot easier than bowling to someone who is not. It is no coincidence that Shaun Tait also bowled his fastest ever (160kph) against New Zealand in the second last CB Series. His accuracy was not down from the West Indies series - notice the similar economy rates.

*By scared, I mean an unwillingness to get forward; playing the wrong line and playing the ball generally quite late.

Did you watch? Steyn bowled with no where near the same pace or accuracy. We have a problem against Pace, I agree, though not all of our batsman are 'scared'. Akhtar destroyed us a while back, though we handled Tait alright.

Umm.. Just stopped reading about the first test match.

Very good Allround performance by the west Indians, Congrats to them.

They look like developing into a good Test team, like way way before. I love to watch west Indies the most after Pakistan. And yeah bravo is a legend.

I saw bits and pieces of the match and i have to say that their fielding has improved the most. Their bowling has been potentially dangerous, their batting hit and miss but fielding was consistently bad. I think the fielding coach needs some applause as well. As for Steyn he seemed a bit out of form- was it his home ground?

I have a keen eye for pace readings and over the whole match, the average pace was quite similar. Obviously, later in spells, his pace dropped more quickly than before, but that can be attributed to a lack of wickets causing a lack of adrenalin.

The West Indians performed very well but now they have to live up to that standard. We cant really judge a team on just one performance. Yes they performed fantastically but can this be re produced for the all series? They have gallons of potential. As gary said without Gayle and Chanderpaul the West Indies batting doesnt look very good. Ganga is good and looks solid at the top, Samuels could also become a very good batsmen needs to concentrate so he doesnt have lapses in his concentration and his innings is over. Morton also needs to tone down in tests. But when they are firing they can be a very good side.

No, Sahara St George's in Port Elizabeth, some of you may remember how badly he bowled there against England (I think - I struggle to remember with young age :p) that contributed to South Africa holding the record for he most extra's in a test innings, something like 70 (Once again not 100% sure)

I disagree with you manee, he only started bowling at his proper pace later on in the second innings, hitting 148kph ish, the rest of the match he would just touch 140kph and was quite comfortable to bowl wayward at 135kph.

Na he really cranked it up towards the end... A little too late for me.

He does have a point. Looking back, New Zealand have struggled against Akhtar, Malinga, Tait and Steyn....all very quick bowlers.

NZ are at a rebuilding stage at the moment. They lost quality openers and top order players, Vincent out of form, Mcculum is the quick fix solution thats made the middle order weaker, new captain, etc. etc. Its almost foolproof that NZ at these times are going to struggle against good quality bowling and they've played teams with a strong pace attack. I'm sure their spin frailty will also come up when they play India or Sri Lanka.

wow wtf are the west indies thinking by droping Darren Sammy and playing Rawl Lewis, dont care if its the best spinning wickets in the world Lewis couldnt spin that ball.

also this is Pollocks ground in terms of stats and yet South Africa still dont play him. Pollock in retirement is better than Andre Nel in his prime, Smith must have been droped on his head when he was a kid.

windies win the toss and bat, hope they put up a huge 1st innings score like they did in the 1st test.
